Pidgin might be screwing up my modem.

I have Optimum Online Boost cable service, a 30MB/s connection.

Every hour or so, The modem freezes up and reboots. This returns socket errors to my many computers that connect to the wireless router.

I've noticed that when my PC is booted into linux, (using gaim), this does not happen.

When I am on Windows and using Pidgin (i always need an instant messenger running), my online uptime never gets passed a few hours or so. My modem would freeze up and reboot.

My main desktop computer is on 24/7. I left booted into Linux (ubuntu) running gaim. My modem never froze for the 3 days I left it online. My online uptime was never inturrupted.

I have reason to believe that it is Pidgin's, or even more generally Windows' fault that this is happening; overloading the router.

I'm a bit confused. I don't know why....It is starting to get annoying. This has been going on for the last 3 reformats I've done over time.

I was thinking the same thing for a while, then I realized that Linux didn't suffer the same problem. Now I am thinking, and strongly believe, it is my driver.

hmm i've been getting winsock errors too, i thought it was utorrent but now that i think back it happened when i ran pidgin with it too..

i solved it by opening windows internet explorer, loading any page, and when the error came up clicking "diagnose connection problems". It tended to work, though it was annoying to do more then once a day.

thing is, it cannot be my router (repairing the connection would reset the connection to the wireless network), because when I lose connection, I still have access to network items; hard drives, printers, etc, and I am still connected to the network.

Pidgin recently got a fix for resuming from standby/hibernate under windows, maybe that ruined sth. else.

I'd try upgrading to the newest version, or failing that, downgrading to gaim 2.0beta5 or 6.
