My first experience with the genius bar

so, some of you know, i'm an i.t. guy. at work, one of our g5's started having problems (random shutdowns, random non-powerups unless hard unplug, like that) so, i made an appointment and brought it in. they called me back 2 days later and said that their diagnostics showed 2 bad sticks of ram. i could come pick it up. oh, and no charge. so, i'm a happy guy.

i get back to the office and order 2 new 2gb dimms. they arrive and i install them. guess what? same problem!

so, i call the apple store and tell them they released a non-fixed g5 and could i bring it back? the best they can do is put me on standby. standby? so, i would just sit there and wait until every appointment has been called and then they squeeze me in? i originally said, 'yes' but after thinking about it, no thanks!

so, just now, i go to make a reservation online. well, it will only allow me to choose saturday (tomorrow). but this is work, and i'm not driving all the way to work to pick up a 45 ****ing pound g5 and drop it off at the apple store on my day off.

so, i call the store and explain my dilemma. the nice young man explains that the reservation system can only see 2 days ahead and that i should make the appointment tomorrow. hey, bud, i got you on the phone now. can you please schedule me for monday morning? "nope, sorry, can't do that. maybe my manager can." fine, please put your manager on the phone.

of course, the manager does this for me no problem. it's all pleasantries and have have a nice weekend. still...

I believe they have a policy of making reservations only online. The drones probably have to comply with this and that's what managers are for. I have had similar experiences at the bar but I also feel that they try very hard to provide a pleasurable experience. Afterall, most visitors walk in kinda pissed about hardware problems and the geniuses have to deal with the computer problem and the attitudes of the computers owners.
