Is Apple turning Mac OS X into a space themed OS?

Lol theyre running out of Big cats to use for names. They're gonna have to start using obscure ones like Tigon, and Liger, Lynx....i don't know of any others they havent used. I think they may have to startnaming the OS's after other things...what other species has a lot of breeds...hmmm monkeys i guess...but i don't really see them naming an OS 'Mac OS X Orangutan :P

Edit: Oh wait looks like there are still a few more big cat names...one of those being 'Ocelot' which i remember rightly being a name for a computer came character in the MGS series of games....it seems like a cool enough name...

1) Where did you hear that iLife '08 is going to be bundled with Leopard? Is this confirmed? I don't think Steve ever said this at any of the keynotes.

2) Anything can change, Levi. It's all just a matter of a simple software update.

1) Ok, maybe leopard itself might not be bundled with ilife, but it will certainly be bundled with the new macs... because thats the way its always been.

ilife is essentially what makes a mac feel complete... and I think my Tiger install disks come with ilife???... or is it only itunes/iphoto?

2) Software update.... yeah they can use that. but the thing is, users have to 'choose' to update. Apple can't push people in quite the same way into the new look, like they can with a whole new release (ilife 08)..

Apple is fairly set on the itunes 7 look, if they dedicated a whole software suite release to it.

it would seem indecisive on apple's part to suddenly change the look by a software update.

If apple does, they will call it a whole new version (eg- itunes 8 instead of itunes 7.4+) which will mean it will have to be bundled with some big new features as well.

know what i mean?

That is where I got it from. I think it must have been phtoshopped. It looks like a pretty easy one to edit.

Well there is Cougar, Cheetah (was this used before?), Puma.. and not to forget Lion.

I had read it somewhere, Apple plans to go to OS 11 from 10.5.. if that's true, I won't be surprised if they call it Lion... OS XI lion. :)

I think Mac OS XI will come near or at the year 2025. At WWDC 2005 Steve Jobs said that Mac OS X will set up Apple for the next 20 years.

lion will probably be last, but lynx sounds smooth (although the lynx people will not like it)

Ocelot is too much of a mouthful..

people don't seem to have noticed that each name has 2 syllables too, so lion or lynx won't work. Maybe

10.6 Wildcat?

10.7 Bobcat?

10.8 Cougar?

10.9 Serval?

i like the space theme, but it seems win98 already had one of those :P Click the lynx to find out more..

10.6 and beyond might be 3D "Space". OS XI will probably be hologram touchscreen.

OS XI might be wibbly wobbly jelly tentacles that you touch with your hands to get it to directly interface with your mind:P...its too early to tell what its going to be like :slant:

#470072

Do you guys want Mac OS X to be more "Space" (black gloss UI) or do you want Mac OS X to be more iTunes 7ish?

I want more "Space", the "Space" theme makes Mac OS X more futuristic.

#470074

Space. Screw the itunes 7 soft fuzzy blueish gradients and metals

#470080

space (black gloss ui, lightly coloured unified windows and glossy silver textures like those in the 'about this mac' apple logo). screw the itunes 7 gui.

ohh lol someone beat me to it.

#470082

Levi i agree with you...maybe someone should tell the apple design team...i don't want to be the one to do it....ive still got the scars from the last time i tried :slant: :P

#470092

Ahh not the space iTunes 7 Thing again.

#470099

Apple has made a good choice by going to a "Space" theme. You can't expect Aqua to remain forever.

Illuminous theme looks cool. I like it. I wonder if Apple wanted Leopard to look like that? Instead, they went with an iTunes 7 UI.

Apples. Why? because it is usable. we all know those widgets wont be in the shipping version of leopard. the rest of the buttons and windows are absolutely sexy. your theme is okay however there are a ton of major flaws which are fatal when it comes to usability. apple knows who they hire when they pick a design team

Well, the iTunes 7 UI is alright and I like it. I just really like the Illuminous theme.
