Precisely Levi, now that unlock is seen in the sight... I'm planning to do the same. My GF want an iPhone, and that time seems pretty near now.

Apparently Unlocking your phone isn't illegal as per DCMA law, in fact it is very much permitted. You own that piece anyway. But it seems AT&T sees a chance in this move, as this group is planning to sell this software, HOW? that is beyond my understanding.. I don't live in USA, neight I'm not aware of deep stuff in LAW.. USA or any other country.
In the USA, if your phone was subsidized ( you got a discount on the phone for signing a service contract), you have to fulfill you contract obligation before you can legally unlock it. After that point you own the phone and can unlock it.
This is why you have expensive early termination fees... the service provider wants their subsidy money back.
The iPhone is not subsidized. You can buy it direct without a contract.
By law, you own it and can unlock it if you posses the skills.
There is no law that requires the manufacturer or service provider, unlock the phone for you.
The DMCA only states that once you own it, you can do with it as you please.
There is currently software only that can unlock the iPhone, but for legal reasons its release may be delayed.

If the software only unlock is legit and functioning, show us the full install, not a video of someone swapping SIM cards.

UniquePhones has been pulling this crap for weeks now.
I doubt they have any viable software and are using this BS excuse to cover their butts.
Most Engadget readers tend to agree with that assessment as well.
Has anyone seen reports of AT&T denying they made the call or have any more info on the story? I agree that it sounds somewhat sketch, but if they do have the software, they could make bank.
