Super Hero Avatars

I am an Administrator over on a site that focuses on a game that uses comic book characters in a game (think of chess in which each piece has their own special abilities).

One of the ongoing projects I have is to make avatars for the site that represent characters in the game. I've done three groups so far; Superman, Spider-Man and the Justice League. I am currently working on a forth, being X-Men.

Since they are only 100x100, they can't be categorized as icons. But are made with transparency.

I understand that very few people may even know more than half of the characters, so if you have any questions, I will be glad to help. Mostly, I want feedback from a design and art perspective :) .

Everything is cool, the darkhawk avatar seems weird to me though, the diamond's outer shine, lower it a bit, and make the diamond stand out more. Fill me in who the heck is Darkhawk and J'onn J'onzz, not a freakin' clue!

Villains are ones that I really want to do. Batman's enemies will be fun (Mr. J, Harley, Ra's, et cetera). Superman's are kinda ... boring. Pretty much, they're "I have Kryptonite, I win!" I have issues with the character in general :P . But I respect it for what it did for the genre.

That one is a joke. It's actually Plastic Man taking the shape of Batman (and Superman and Wonder Woman). I wanted to leave their original costumes for their own collection (like I did with Superman), but the Justice League couldn't be done without the Big Three of DC. And I've always had plans of doing something of that nature with Plastic Man :)

Darkhawk is character created in the 90's. Chris found an amulet (diamond in the center) that connected him to an outside source of power (the amulet also is an offensive device). Not at all an interesting origin, but many new characters don't have one. Original origins are hard to come up with these days.

As Samio stated, J'onn J'onnzz (pronounced "John Jones") is Martian Manhunter. It's his true martian name.

Right now, in the game, we have Zombie Spider-Man (in the "Friendly Neighborhood" collection), Colonel America, Wolverine (will be in the X-Men set) and Hulk. We do know that Iron Man is coming up. So, I will get to them, eventually :) .

Kingdom Come was an excellent story! That book single handedly made Alex Ross my favorite artist. So much happens is so few pages. I just want more stories. I haven't dared to read The Kingdom, with no Alex Ross, I will probably just be disappointed, since KC was Ross' dream story since he was a child.

Plans? Absolutely. I'm always brainstorming. However, not in production.

Thank you. Specific ones that I like (personal character biases set aside :P) are: The Man of Steel (waving cape), Son of Darkseid, Steel, Natasha Irons, Iron Armor Spider-Man, S-M Zombie, "The Man Without Fear", Punisher, Darkhawk, "Bucket Head", Aquaman, Rocket Red, "Fastest Man Alive", and Fire. Those are the ones that really stand out that I love. There aren't many that I am not happy with, however. Granted most of the ones I named took me the longest time to do, but I was really happy with the way they turned out. Especially Zombie Spider-Man

I've gotten exponentially excited for it once I saw exclusive footage of The Dark Knight at Wizard World Chicago with surprise guests the writers David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan, director Christopher Nolan, Gary Oldman (Gordon), Aaron Eckhart (Harvey Dent AKA Two-Face) and Christian Bale (you know who he plays ;)). Heath Ledger plays a very creepy Joker. I'm serious, every scene with him was so eerie. I can't wait for July 18, 2008!

The pics which were leaked of the aforementioned exclusive footage of the dark knight.... and Heath's hideous portrayal of everybody's fav maniacal madman is reason enough to wait for its July 2008 release!

A suggestion.... a Superman-Batman logo (as in the book) plz.... its way too awesome to be left out.

Hmm...., I kinda been slacking (working on other things), but I did get inspiration for The Corps, based on the Green Lantern Corps. I'm sure it's not that hard to figure out which one I am pleased with the most. I think they're all good, but one really pushed me to my PhotoShopping limits. And I love it for giving me a challenge.

Super Hero Avatars

A teaser of the X-Men set is active. You'll notice something new; well two things ;) . I finally broke down, creating distinguishable female characters was becoming a too difficult. I will try my best to keep them modest, though with some source material, it may become a chore (I'm looking at you Power Girl and White Queen!).

Also are additions into The League collection. I still got a couple more to do, but I felt like I needed to add something. I love how Zatanna came out.

Thank you! I feel like as I go on, they get more realistic, which is what I wanted, but I had to learn to break from the Aqua mold :P .
