Aqua-Soft Forumsi'm going to be ordering a MacPro in october, today i customize the the MacPro the way i want it, there is a new MacPro Raid Card does anyone knows what this suppose to do? is it worth getting when ordering. does the MacPro already comes with raid 0 anyways?

umm a raid is where you use multiple hard drives to get better performance. I believe the two drives function as one, but the computer gets information from both meaning faster access speeds etc (correct me if im wrong).
So im assuming you need the card in order to 'raid' your multiple hard drives in your mac pro. Without it I think your hard drives will act like normal- two seperate hard drives.
SO only get it if you are getting multiple hard drives, and need max performance (eg- large photoshop documents or video editing may require large amounts of temporary storage and processing power- hence why having dual raided hard drives would be useful).

I agree with Levi on the fact that if you are using the computer for large files like photo or video editing you can get a performance boost from a raid, but there is more then one way to set up a raid i can't remember the raid #'s but here is what they do. you will need two identical drives to do a raid set up so if you have one 250GB HD in drive c you will need the same in drive D, you can set it up with the mac pro to use up to 4 drives.
you can set up a raid to mirror you drive, i.e. ( drive C and D will have a mirror ) this will write the same info to 2 drives giving you a back up of every bit of info you have on drive C to Drive D. Not sure if you will get any performance boost from this set up but you will always have a backup copy of all your files and less likely to look important information that way.
You can set up raid to split info between 2 drives i.e. ( Drive E and F ) will share info and act as one drive so if you have another set of 250 GB HD's from what i understand about this set up the computer takes the 2 drives and makes them act as one so in the end you will only have access to 250 GB's of info on the 2 drive and not 500 GB this will allow you to access the information faster, but does not give you any extra security or a backup file of your information.
I am not sure but i think that you can use both in the Mac Pro due to its 4 drive bays. you would set up, you would have to have 2 sets of identical drives i.e. ( 2 250GB HD in first raid set up and another 2 250GB HD for the other set up) keep in mind if you split one set it will only allow you to have a total of 250 GB's.
