Sony Trinitrons. I've used them before and loved the rich color, the true blacks, and the crystal clarity of the desktop image produced by an excellent monitor. I just picked up a new 19" black Trinitron to finish off the look of my system and I was literally stunned when my desktop came up. Pure beauty.

If you are on a PC and are into the OSX look, pick up a Trinitron ASAP. The shadows behind menus now have depth, gel buttons gleem and are transluscent...the Auqa controls are actually sunken. I can only convey through words what you can't see without a Trinitron - anything I even try to screenshot will be misinterpreted by another monitor type.

ANyhow, thats all I wanted to say.

deadzombie speaks the truth... i have a 15" trinitron that came with my VAIO... the images are outstanding! crisp, vibrant colors...

if you are looking for a CRT, a Sony Trinitron is the way to go...

Sone: You wont see this in the proper depth or colors unless you have a decent monitor - thats kind of the point of this thread. For example, TIm keeps telling me certain images we work with are blue or yellow 0 he has an obvious shift in his monitors RGB settings...but even if I send him samples of colors, he views them with the same problem, so he thinks Im crazy, even though everything looks nice on my side.

Anyhow, for those of you with a Trinitron or Studio Display, check this bad boy out - 19", .23dot pitch, 1600x1200 @ 85mhz:

Monitors are what we stared at everyday, DZ is right, a decent LCD monitor is worth an investment. Sony Trinitrons are surpurb, and cousin bought a Eizo 17" because he couldn't afford a Sony 16:9 LCD, which is outstanding as well.

Whilst not a Trinitron, the top of the range (X or P) series TFT monitors use the same range panels as the Apple displays, and so my home machine, on my Sony SDM-X82 looks absolutely stunning. Maybe it's not got the lowest pixel response times, but the colours are the most stunning thing I've seen on any TFT monitor.

I, however, want a pair of these bad boys once I've upgraded the rest of my PC... Yes, they're the exact same panel as the Apple 23" cinema display, but with a more professional look to them, a similar price, and four independant inputs (2 DVI, 2 D-Sub).

Give me one of those over a Cinema Display any day :6

..The optioned 16:9 panel employs an incredible horizontal resolution well in excess of two thousand pixels...

Do you have any idea how friggin' BIG a 30", 16:9 computer moniter would be?

I agree with Deadzombie,

Sorry folks but TFTs just can't compare to a real good Trinitron.

I have 2, a 17" Pureflat and a beautiful 21" near flat. Both have the best color and contrast on any monitor I have seen. I should know I see hundreds of them a year as they come through the shop and the best sellers are the Trinitrons. They may cost a little more than a standard CRT but they more than make up for the price. Now TFTs on the other hand we have completely stoped carring because we got tired of dealing with customers that were unhappy with there bad pixels and other issues. All we could do is give them the number for the manufacturer because we already know what they are going to say about the pixels.

Plus you don't have to worry about dead pixels and the flrourecent element going out. In the end TFT screens are just not worth the cost and hassle they bring. Those of you that have one, just wait. When things start to hit skids with it this is going to show how good your manufacturer is going to treat you.

I think it depends on who makes your TFT, and what it's worth (not the same as how much you paid)...

The panels Apple use in their screens are very high quality, and they have a low defect tolerance at production.

With regards to "Those of you that have one, just wait", I've had mine for 18 months. It had, in this time, 1 dead subpixel, and Sony happily replaced the panel under warranty. From the time the monitor left me to the time I got it back was about 10 days, over which time I had a temporary monitor which Sony UK loaned me for free.

I've sat it side by side with my best friend's 19" Sony Trinitron (admittedly, his monitor is now 3 years old, but he keeps it in mint condition), and, as far as I'm concerned, my monitor's colour is as good (except for the deep blacks, which are a touch washed out, in comparison, but that's only because I need the backlight on where I have the screen).

At the end of the day, if you want a truly good TFT you still have to pay above £600 (for an 18"), which is about twice to three times that of an equivalent CRT.

The two main reasons I own a TFT instead of a CRT though, are:

• I have very little space to spare, so I don't really have room for a huge CRT tube
  
• Show me a CRT that looks a damn' cool as my Sony SDM-X82

Sony monitor are the best but i have a CTL and its great for many things

im hoping that my parents will get me a nice 19" monitor for christmas/birthday!!

and CTL is praticly next door to me so if anything goes wrong i can jog down to

the CTL repair shop and have it fixed at that moment!!
