I Need A New Video Card

I've had a really bad experience with an ATI radeon 64 MB DDR. I'm thinking very seriously about diging out my ArkLinux distro and dual booting Window and the Ark.

Any seggustions on cards, I want at leist 64 MB

how much are you willing to spend?

ti4200 is a pretty good card for the money, and it's not too expensive. you ocan always overclock it to be a 4400 too, i believe. better cards might include the higher fx models, like 5900.

never "dig out" a linux distro. Always download the latest version.

Ark is a very good distro. Ive talked with the developers and they are really trying to cater to the ****. Good choice. (Y)

I have a Ti 4400 clocked to 4600 and also have just forked out a ton of money for a Geforce FX5900 Ultra 256MB for Doom3 and Half Life 2 but my Ti 4400 ran the Doom3 umm Demo fine, so really depends first on your budget and what you use your PC for..

I forgot to mention, I have only PCI, no AGP.... Thanx

@contra, I just DLed it like 2 days ago... I just happend to loose the cds... And Now , i cant find them. oh well, ill DL a new copy.

OMG there servers are very fast I downloaded the whole distro in 1.5 hours

I actually ran it on VPC, I can't believe you can play tetris while it installs! Windows would never let you...

If you only have PCI, I wouldnt get anything better than a Geforce4MX 64MB. I wouldnt even waste the money on DDR ram.

Your bandwidth just isnt good enough for any modern cards.

Yeah, Ark looks cool. Good thing your partitions are FAT32, so you can resize them to dual boot. ;)

id recommend suse linux personal 8.2....but what ever

as for a card, id get one of the newest FX's or if you dont have that much money you could go for a mx 440 or a low-end Ti

i dont like ATi at all, i dont care if people say their cards are better, im nVidia hard core

My first graphics card I bought was an nVidia 64mb 420, reason why I bought it was the price. Later on I upgraded to a Radeon 9200 128mb and this card it performs ok but durning BF 1942 it just does work right. I did all the patches and everything. So I am goin to return it and go back to nVidia 5200 128mb. nVidia seems to be gaining strength over Radeon and in the market too.

yeah, i made the same mistake. you're probably better off getting a new mobo with an agp slot. since i've built this one, things have been much better.
