I have a really good computer, so yeah, good video card, I really want to move from normal screen to wide sceen with my CTR monitor, do you know any application? or how to do it?
You do realize, that if you were to get a wide screen resolution working on a 4:3 monitor, everything would be very squished horizontally... Seems pretty pointless to me.
If you have a spare monitor, hook up up for dual 4:3's, that should get you some of the space you are looking for, otherwise there is really no substitute for a wide screen monitor.
Well, I think theres a possibility that theres a program that sets a custom resolution, if every thing looks funny, you just set the wideness and hight of the screen with the actual monitor... I need a program that makes custom resolutions...
I think what he's talking about is not stretching the desktop but instead putting, say, a 1280x800 widescreen resolution on a 1280x1024 monitor, BUT having it look "theater style" by having black space where the unused pixels are. Some laptops have this functionality.
Besides that, i'm pretty sure this would be quite the stress on your video card...
Virstulte is right, thats what I exactly want! There must be an app that does this...
I gotta ask. Whats the thought process in wanting two giant black bars on your screen instead of ..screen??
If you havent already; try physically setting your monitor to squish, than changing the res to fit to this new squish..
..and chances are there wont be an 'app' that does it, unless its from your video card manufacturer, so check their site (porobably under "dumb apps"

or buy a widescreen monitor 
they are not that expensive anymore

You didn't fail, you just didn't get the answer you wanted.
It's highly doubtful you'll find any self-respecting developer who would develop this type of app. Most people are trying to get more screen space not rendering useful space dead.
Use 'Powerstrip' to make a custom resolution if you can. I remember doing it before. Hope it helps you out.
I think that was the software that I wanted, but I managed to get the resolution that I wanted with my Mag Innovision monitor, but thanks alot Rezin!

yeah, you don't need any app for this, do it like virstulte said, I tried too and it worked. but it's better to change your CRT with a widescreen LCD...
yes, your monitor may hav Wide Screen resolution supported, but its not usefull, you will not get the required output. And will look shabby. Dont try to set wide screen resolution on non wide screen monitor.
You can get widescreen on normal monitor (I just did) but that's only if you have a sucky intel video card and It doesn't make any sense to make it widescreen.... you're just shrinking your viewing area
I have a 17" laptop, and I can show every 4:3 and 16:9 resolution from 800x600 up to 2048x1536 (
But, it's already widescreen...
