Complications installing Vista Ultimate on a computer with 256 MB RAM

Alright, I have the real disc for Ultimate, but I only have 256 RAM. Thats not my problem I have a crack that makes it so I can install it on my system, but after it installs I cant get the ethernet, sound, or my monitor to work. Everything else does. I did the compatibility check and besides the RAM issue the same things I said came up. I just need drivers for the ethernet and my monitor.

My computer is a DELL Inspiron 8000

Monitor is Samsung SyncMaster 151v

Not sure about the ethernet stuff what to put but if I cant get internet im not going to upgrade.

I had to roll back once already, please dont make me do it again after I upgrade...

well...try remembering you're dealing with a crack?

you're basically forcing vista onto your computer.

also, having 256mb of ram is not wise.

-----------------------------------------------

am i gonna get banned for this?

#464351

Is this an illegal-type crack, or a hack-type crack?

Also, why don't you propose a more descriptive thread title so I can rename this.

-NC

#464424

NC: I dont see how this would be illegal. I am just bypassing the RAM check during the installation process. If it is illegal you may delete this thread, I am not really sure I just want help with it hah

Well, that's what I was asking...it's a hack-type crack, so it's fine ;). -NC

#464445

just for the record if you cant get your monitor to work how do you know that it even works at all?

#464449

because im on XP and it now?

#464453

ah, i see. stupid thing to say i guess. my bad.

i didn't know you dual booted.

#464458

no i didnt, I just upgraded but then found out then I had to downgrade back and erase my partition to get this post up haha

#464588

Have you gone to the manufacture's web-site to find any updated drivers? My ethernet and sound card weren't working until I downloaded the drivers from Intel's site (my Mobo's manufacturer). Well, I still didn't get the sound to completely work in Vista before I got rid of it.

#464595

i did that vista compatibility thing and thats what came up, thats also what didnt work in vista...

#464604

FYI that crack is probably causing problems. Vista was not designed to use 256mb of ram. And what I mean by that is, Superfetch is not designed to handle that amount of ram. Theirs a reason why Microsoft said 512mb minimum and no 256mb. Thats becides the fact that its 2007 and your machine doesnt atleast have half a gig of ram? Jeez...

#464658

i have to agree with astynax here, you've spent money buying an operating system for considerably more then it would cost to buy a stick of 256MB ram (~$20). I have 512 and i'm starting to find problems running XP SP2...

#464667

I have a strong feeling he didn't "buy" ultimate. There a very few people in this world who would spend 499 on a brand new "top of the line" OS that wont run on their inadequate computer. It will never run properly, the minimum requirment for ultimate is 1gig.. it runs on 512 but thats already pushing it. 256 stay with xp man unless you enjoy locking up your computer and major headachs.

You mean $399 :P

But you do have a point. No one would buy Ultimate if they didn't have a computer good enough to run it out of the box. I could see someone with Home Basic trying this, but no Ultimate.

i was going to add something like that to my post, but i couldn't express it correctly, thankyou for doing it for me.

btw Asty, is that really your top speed? I have 16Mb and it can hit 7 tops...

#464696

running it wasnt the problem, it ran faster than xp did on my system and it had all the same stuff on there, i just need the drivers and stuff

Yep it's not photoshoped, check the link. The image is hosted on speedtest :P

First off if you have a legit copy it should have been obtained thru the computer manufacturer.

And this problem with drivers ladys and gentlemen is why custom build computers always = win.

if you have a legal version of the install disk then you can try ripping it to ISO, then using ISOmagic or other ISO software and edit the installer config file, then burn the ISO on a new dvd. I'd tell you how to do that, but, I forget exactly what config needs edited. I had to do that to install Home Premium on a laptop.

#464739

yeah i know how to install it Boog... i did that by using VistaLite to rip it then used a patcher to delete the place where it checks the amount of ram needed... I JUST NEED THE DRIVERS!!

#464740

vLite?... oh, right i've used it...! Seems like you messed up with this:

vliteqw5.png

Take your Vista DVD, do the RAM tweak, but UNCHECK this boxes!

Then, burn a new installation disc et voila!

I've got it to work on a 256MB old HP PC. It works perfectly.

I even made a superlite 680MB Vista Installation CD!

Good luck!

Hope that helps

can you give me the model of that pc, i just want to check a site to see if there are drivers...

note: i did the vista check thing and it said that there were no drivers found for sound or ethernet...

#464763

No, that's because [i guess] you erased drivers when you burned your VistaLite Installation disc.

Get the Vista DVD and make a NEW vLite disc, but make sure to UNCHECK all driver boxes (monitor, network or sound drivers).

When i burned my first vLite disc, i deleted printer drivers, and i didn't get my printer to work. I thought i can download the drivers on the internet, but it actually needed the bundled drivers. So i made another VistaLite disc and made sure to uncheck 'Printer drivers' box. I think that's your problem. You deleted the included drivers.

BTW, that PC (actually mi sis PC) is an HP Pavillion 514m

#464765

yeah im gonna try again on my other comp... well see what happens
