The Lucida Grande Stretch?

I don't get it. Ever since I tweaked my system font to Lucida Grande a couple of weeks ago, some text fields get really elongated. An example picture is attached.

Anyway, it does that on random one-line text fields like that, all over the system and on various thing all over the net. It's a system ordeal, not a browser conflict, because it transgresses browsers and can even be hit upon within Windows itself.

Could someone tell me why this is going on and how to fix it (other than, obviously, resetting the fonts, but that's boring )?

I think that problem occurred depending on what version of Lucida Grande you were using. See if you can find a different one.

Pretty sure I'm using iceman's. Is that one of the bad fonts? Because other than that stretching junk it's the best one I've found (yet). If it is, could someone toss me a nice non-stretching simile of it? The closest I've ever found is..well...the one that comes with Windows.

If you've installed Safari for Windows on your computer, the font can be found somewhere in the Resources folder of the directory you installed it into. Try that one.

I can confirm that - I stole the fonts from the package with Universal Extractor so I didn't have to install Safari, replaced my old (Iceman's) Lucida files, and... no more extra-long textboxes !!

edit: but... uhm... Iceman's actually rendered better... :slant:

well, maybe it's just me and my old Windows 2000... I'm keeping the new version for the moment, long textboxes were really annoying

In particular, I'm having rendering problems with italics Lucida, that is not included in the set - so it may really be a problem of the truetype engine on my system. Can't check on xp now though

uhm, I don't think I can redistribute them outside the Safari package. Just get Univ. Extractor and unpack the Safari package without installing it - you'll find the two .ttf files in a second
