Well, the title explains it. I made a downloads folder and I want to change the icon for only that folder.
How to change Icon of a Single Folder (OS X)
Copy the ICNS file (highlight it, right click (Control click if you mouse does not have a right click) and copy in Finder). On the folder which you want to change the icon, right click (again, Control click if needed) and choose Get Info. In that dialog box, click the icon in the very top left so it will glow a blue outline, and press Comman/Apple V (pasting). Viola.
does it have to be icns?
Yes. Any other file type (like a PNG) will add that file type's icon.
And a side note; if you want to revert back to the default, highlight it, and press the backspace key on your keyboard.
very nice. Thanks. I've got an image to ICNS converter app, can you point me in the direction of a widget? I know I saw one before, but can't remember where.
