[request] Left-click Desktop Brings Up Start Menu

This is kind of a "feeling out" of the whiz bang programmers that hang out here...since I have no idea how easy or hard it would be, I'd like to hear from someone who may know how much work it'd take...and from others who may think it's useful. I would like to see a utility I could run at startup to pop up the start menu when I left-click on the desktop. Kind of like any of the unix or linux shells. Instead of having to go to the bottom left corner of the screen (or wherever your start button is just left-click your desktop and the start menu appears AT THE MOUSE POINTER LOCATION (that's important too).

I used to use an app called StartPop to do it with Win98 and Win2000, but it doesn't work right with XP...with XP when you left-click the desktop the start menu appears from the start button location...that's not all that handy if I left click the upper right hand area of the dektop and the menu appears on the lower left...I might as well have clicked the start button to begin with if I have to move my mouse over there to select something on the menu anyway. If you've never seen it in action, you probably don't realize what a time-saver it is.

This would also come in handy if you wanted to eliminate your taskbar from the desktop...you'd still have access to the start menu by left-clicking anywhere on the desktop.

Thanks for any comments...

I looked around a Virtual Plastic and Shell Extention City. I found nothing. :( Doo.

LiteStep, the best alternative shell, will do it! ;)

Yeah, I know, but Litestep's a lot of work to set up just to have that one function...I think Hoverdesk will do it too, but once again...lots of extra baggage to get the one feature (plus the cost of registering).

Seems like an easy thing to do....hardest part is figuring out where the mouse pointer is on the screen and whether the start menu should pop up to the right or left of it, and above or below the pointer so that it doesn't run off the screen.

If it's just a menu you're looking for, you might want to try: http://www.x21b.com/pkmenu.php

Close...but I'm looking for something easier (for the user)...I want to LEFT-CLICK the desktop (not click the mouse wheel) and have the WINDOWS START MENU pop up (not a menu I have to customize and pick a skin for). If someone can write PKMenu, I don't see it being a stretch to do what I'm asking for.
