Meh, IBM-branded computers do that. I have an ond R40 and it does that same thing...only every minute. Mine is never idle...

And only twice have I heard the fan go to full speed. The 30 secs thing does not go full speed. It only goes about quarter-speed. You won't believe how loud a laptop fan is at full speed.

I have a T43 and the fan never kicks in loud enough to be heard.

The CD drive is a different story. That thing is loud.

thank you,

i called them and they say to install bios update and power management driver.

i haven't updated the bios yet because i need to do a lot of data backup before.

My X60 doesnt do that. If fan is active (and this is very rarely, i.e. when I run some heave apps or games) it is still barerly audible.

My T23's fan and CD drive are frickin loud. Oh, and the fan rarely ever stops.

My dad's T60's fan is really quiet, but the CD drive is loud.

I'll bend this topic a bit, since I'm going to buy a Thinkpad soon, and ask: is there anything I should know before ? :D

I'm probably going for a X61-T, if I don't change my mind in 3 days :)
