Iphoto-like Program: Picasa

Just letting you guys now there's a program that is really cool and acts a lot like iPhoto:

it's called Picasa and you can download a 15-day trial version at http://www.picasa.net

Man, someone really needs to create an iPhoto programs. That would be so superb. And come guys, (all you programers out there) it cant be that hard basically a photo viewing application that looks gosh awfully pretty! :lol: But, seriously theres probably a lot of crud to deal with, with the reading of the pictures, and the automatic loading, when a perepheral is plugged in. Anyways, just something else to put on the wish list.

I use ACDSee 5.0 PowerPack myself. I think it's pretty damn close to iPhoto.

For photo organisation and multiple graphic file organisation, I find CompuPicPro to be the best. Unfortunately it doesn't look like iPhoto but it does just about everything most people need.

Well, maybe this will start something then. Someone needs to skin one of these "acting and functioning like" photo organization programs to like iPhoto. How sweet would that be?? But, ya know what? Ah, nevermind. Someone should just write the entire programs from scratch to get everything perfect, feel, look, everything. But, wait. Thats a lotta darn work! And I cant do it! Oh no, looks like its too much work for anyone to actually do this. We'll see what time brings us!

Jmitch, I was thinking about that myself.

I'm not a skinner (skilled with photoshop though) but I gave Picasa a quick look and it seems that it uses a seperate folder for the graphics, instead of having them included in an .exe or a dll...

But I'm not sure if that really is the case, so I'll go and experiment a bit...

++>> update: Picasa uses layered psd's with different graphics as a source for buttons it seems. This is really weird, but promising....

another update: the main interface also has a PSD as a source....weird program! :lol:

I just gave Picasa a try, and I'll definately buy this one. It's great, and if someone can skin it, I think it could be very close to iPhoto. Thanks a lot for the link to Picasa.

picasa looks very good , but it only support jpg images, so i find it almost useless <_

I downloaded it a few days ago and i think its pretty slick. Nice find lombdude. Now all we need is a nice iApp skin for it.

well, I did some experiments on the PSD's that seem to be connected to the Picasa-UI. But whenever I change something in the PSD, I get an error in Picasa. Weird.

I'm really busy working right now, so no time for me to figure that out. But if someone contacts me I'll gladly share what I know about it
