Powerbook Freezes after upgrade

I hope someone can help me....I've looked other places and have found no reason why my Powerbook keeps freezing up.

Today I upgraded my Powerbook G4 from 512 MB of memory to 2GB of memory. I installed the memory just fine, and I checked and double checked to see if the memory was compatible. But ever since I upgraded my system freezes up unexpectedly and I even got the "you must restart your computer" screen. The memory is 2 Corsair 1GB DDR2 SODIMM (Model #: VS1GSDS533D2). Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like a hardware problem.

That's as much as i can help you with...not a whiz with hardware.

Download and run "Rember" (a GUI version of the command line program memtest). The memory may be corrupt, or whatever the proper term is.

^Agreed. It's probably hardware and if it didn't happen before you put the RAM in, there's about a 98% chance it's the culprit.

Find some sort of memory tester and use it. If it can't find anything but it still keeps screwing up, try the tedious old fashioned way-removing as little RAM as possible at a time (like 1 chip or with some computers with that weird RAM wiring, 2) until the problem vanishes. Then you've found your bad chip(s).

Thank you all for your replies. I ran the Mac OS X hardware test and nothing was wrong. I will try your methods nightcrawler1089 and Ali C. Hopefully something will come up and it will be an easy fix. Again, thanks for your quick replies.

I tried Rember and nothing came up. I then tried justing using one stick at a time, they both crashed my computer....it didn't matter which one was in. Also my computer would get VERY hot with either of them in, which isn't the case with the factory 512mb. VERY strange. I am returning them to Buy.com for replacements, but something tells me there is a larger problem. I've had my PB G4 for almost 2 years now and never had a problem like this. It's probably out of warranty and not covered under Applecare. :-/
