Anyone here know anything about Reel to Reel (4 track) players? I bought a Phillips 1966 model, but it doesn't work. I'm going to take it apart piece by piece... but some a general schematic would be very helpful.
Reel To Reel Repair
Does the unit power on? If it does, check to see if all the motors are running. You may have to replace all the rubber belts. Thread the tape correctly or else if you miss the take-up spindle, the unit may not run. It acts as a stop switch when the tape runs out.
It powers on. And the reels move fine when using WIND and REWIND. But nothing happens when I hit play.
I don't think the belt needs to be replaced - I took off the top part.
Might I be threading the tape wrong? Without removing the piece that covers the magnetic head I don't have many options when threading it (since I can not able to see the moving parts).
Maybe I can post some pictures of it. Would that help in guiding me?
By all means post the pictures. Yes you might be misthreading the tape. There is a small spindle device the moves in an up-down curve. The tape has to pull it up when it is threaded so that it switches on. Once the tape runs out and exits the reel, that spindle drops and stops the motor automatically.
