Firefox file downloads

Recently my trusty old FireFox has become quite annoying when downloading files. When I click a link to a file to download it, FireFox goes into a "nonresponsive mode" for like 5-10 seconds before it pops up the "download/open"-dialog. And then that dialog does the same thing (ie. I can't hit the "OK" button for 5 seconds).

I've tried:

* Complete reinstall

* emptying offline files

* clearing up the download list

* disabled all of my addons

..and yet no luck. Has anyone experienced this?

I can't really shed any light on your problem.

However what I can suggest, if you download Portable Firefox, install this on a seperate drive or a USB drive and see if you get the same results. This might eleminate FF and point you the direction of the PC.

I had the same problem when I was on Windows, and I never found a solution. I thought that the "OK" button lag was a security measure to prevent reflex downloads, but I never found anything to that effect.

Maybe mps69's suggestion will provide a solution!

Good luck,

i remember seeing a tweak that could change the time it takes for that reflex thing.

just make sure your userchrome.css file is empty. Also, next time you uninstall it remove all references to 'firefox' from the registry and the program files/mozilla firefox folder, and your %appdata/mozilla folder.

-userchrome was/is empty

-i deleted mozilla from %appdata%

but I didn't remove anything from the registry. Oh well, I guess a reformat sometime soon will do the trick.
