I think it couldn't be much easier, only maybe by dropping some options, but these many options are what makes AveDesk special and superior to others. So what kind of interface do you got in mind?

What kind of customization of Yahoo are you refering to? Most people choose AveDesk because unlike Yahoo you can adjust your desklets and make your own skins by just switching images... With Yahoo it seems more like take it or leave it to me.
The WYSIWYG desklet creator is I think still in progress, but pcm is also very busy, so that'll take time.
would like to see a percentahe siz changer for desklet in addition to the pixel sizing now offered. All pngs are not square you know! and proportionate percentage reductions aor increses may prove useful
and how about a well written guide covering all aspects esp troubleshooting
how about direct kinks from within the program to various sources of downloads, avedesk, sysstats etc for additional choice and resources

first Avedesk has a nice interface but it's not really simple, dropping some options and some improvements may still be made, for example before 2.0b the add "desklet" interface was quite (how do you say this) uh... different or unfamiliar
what i meant by skin customization like konfab/yahoo is the default widgets have an option to change color and stuff(although this could also be done in Avedesk) ok... maybe that's not really a wanted feature
and i really hope that pcm is still working on the WYSIWYG desklet creator 
too bad avedesk isn't being developed anymore 
I'm actually working on a "countdown" widget ... it might be released by July... but I have a hard time on graphics... i wish Kol would help me.... but that's too much too hope for
