i installed the itunes+mplugin release a few days and it worked perfectly, but quickly uninstalled it due to itunes 7 being absolute rubbish of a program (everytime i tried to kill the ipod service or helper, it would reinstall, and start up on its own). is there any way to kill the ipod service+helper permanently? i have no use for either.
iTunes 7 - iPod service+ iTunesHelper problem
The iTuneshelper is hopeless. I just shrugged it off long ago and figured it needed a friend to help it, so I'd quit trying to take its helper away. Har har.
As far as iPodService, no, there is NO reason to have that running unless you have an iPod. And you can cut it off via MSCONFIG but if I remember right it's hiding in Services, not startup programs.
iTunes helper can be disabled with msconfig/autoruns/Startup CP/etc.
If I rename the ipodservice.exe on my machine, it doesn't try to reinstall.
You should be able to prevent it's reinstallation by opening regedit to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTInstallerProducts and removing the itunes product key. Mine is D27539E6E13FF694B8F24F003B2ACBE4. Back up the key first.
thanks for the tips, Ali C., Sartre.
