Aqua glass effect box tutorial

newtype5va0.jpg

i think yahoo widgets hav a good style on having glass effects.

can anyone here make me a PSD on photoshop or if possible an image tutorial.

i want to learn that glass effect on the boxes

newtype6it4.jpg

i just want to know if there is someone who knows how.

i tried to follow tutorials on the net before.

but i cant seem to get the right glass effect.

some tutorials are too dark with gloss.

i want the yahoo widget style.

it looks simple and glossy

-----------

dear mods pls move my help/request to what thread it shud be bcause i dont know where to post this. thank you.

Not too hard to do, just select the upper regions of the image and brighten just that area a bit. Voila, instant glass.

It looks niftier if you can give it a curve at the bottom of the selection (not the image, just the upper part you selected).

Sorry if that sounds like a bad tongue twister. Maybe someone can explain this to you a little better.

its a bit more complicated than that actually... for a start, its not just brighter, it also fades out, almost like a gradient style thing towards the top.

I suggest you look into masks and gradients. this tutorial may help;

yeah like why not show me a sample that you make?

i'd understand what you mean if you show me a sample.

your own work.

i want it visual

Inside the zip u'll find a PSD which shows the build-up of layers needed to achieve the glass-effect you seek. It is not the yahoo widget style, but it's only to give you an idea of the basic steps. I assume you know your way around photoshop enough to start from there.

usafu9.gif

i want to learn diffrent glass effects so i can use them to fit depending on the kind of image.

if anyone has a diffrent version of glass effect pls let me see it. ty

vale because you use a template (with drop shadow ready) minus -5 goten points!

(/07.02.07 image & file removed, cleaning out my server)

To do that highlight (if you have adobe photoshopCS), draw a circle, turn the fill down to zero, turn on layterstyle, check on graident overly, and do a white to transparent from top to bottom (-90'), than just adjust the Opacity untill it seeks fit

sugoi~

i luv ur style too!

iye i'll try that too!

ohhhhhhhh!! im looking for that drop shadow effect!

glass2ui6.png

the glass effect on the title bar. ty

------------

i'll rate you 85 goten points if you can mime that glass effect.

(but 75 goten is the highest for zazzy and -5 goten is the lowest)

Glass Orb

PSD in the zip

vale because you use a template (with drop shadow ready) minus -5 goten points!

WTF? Using templates is a common practice to save time(It's my own template by the way). So I don't understand what ur gripe is. I'm not gonna make every step ready to swallow, now am I ;) ?

@ vale, I've seen a bunch of your work, thats definitly not your best. The glar on the orb is -way-way- to white

---

@yushin the best way to learn is through pratice... the second best method would be tutorials, theirs millions of the on the internet..

http://www.good-tutorials.com/tutorials/photoshop

glass orb, glass bars, glass text, its all on their, step by step visual instructions.

@ vale, I've seen a bunch of your work, thats definitly not your best

That may be so, but I never intended it to be perfect. I'm only helping out, and like I said earlier I'm not gonna make every step ready to swallow. I'll leave room for improvement and own creativity, so yushin or anybody else will learn on his own. And be honest..it's not that hard to turn down the transparancy of the glare to your own taste, now is it? ;)

#460483

desu. thats right. but i also tried to follow tutorials on the net. but some style's i found we're too old. im actually posting here so i can see fresh new styles..

well for me the fastest way to learn is from PSD. and i learn a lot from coldwerturkey's simple psd.

i can see thru everything bcause he just used a simple method.

(altho i think the gloss was too light but i luv the dropshadow and the addons)

(hey guys notice me when your using filter ok. so that i wont get confused how you made those effects)

as for the templates. i dont want to learn short-cuts. i want it manually made so i can customize or add something on it.

well its not really that bad. im already grateful that your helping me. what more can i ask right?

its just that i'd give minus -5 goten points. hihihi~

criticizing is good to make it better is'nt it?

whoa! im amazed! those works you posted wus'nt your 100% right?

(im shock !!)

even if i wanted to give negative comments. i cant say it, bcause i dont want to make you guys feel bad. but in terms on making it better. like for instance i'd say, that glass orb looks great! but the highlight is too high. (well i can see it to that perspective) but u said that wud be the point that i shud be the one to make it right. the way my taste is. ne.

but guys please dont post your works halfheartedly.

its like your giving me puzzles that i have to do a lot of thinkings.

bcause im learning thru your styles.

thank you again for the PSD vale and coldwer~

but pls dont forget my post about the title bar glass effect. ty.

#460488

if you want to learn short cuts, invest in some video tutorials, thos guys do the shortcut, explain why, and show the full way all within thirty seconds,

I did the tittle bar, but its was almost to simplistic, hence the link I gave you. That link has 1380pages of amazing photoshop tutorials they are very new age.

#460493

@coldwer

yes. i was already thinking of going there since it came from you.

by the way, as im analizing this.

@vale

glassorbcriticfx7.png

i love that strong highlights!(its perfect for my next subject) but can't seem to mime your work.

need your personal tips. since it came from you.

and this.

glassorbcritic2eq1.png

thats the first glass effect post i just changed the shape/size.

i wanted to put the strong highlights in this shape.

about the gloss_mask. why is it that when i turn the fill to 0% i cant get the same effect like the gloss_mask you made vale? i tried to mimic the shape and gradient color. but im lacking something.

the fact that its a short-cut cant really make me understand since i cant discern the basics things you did.
