I know i know... strange request
but im tired of that little computer icon showing up in my status bar at the bottom. Would it be a safe idea to replace the icon in Explorer with ResHack with a transperant icon?

did you look on Virtual Plastic yet? I did it before and I think I got the directions from there.
no no, it's not that i need directions, i know how to do it, but i just would like to know if it's safe.
status bar..
well, it'll be safe, but keep in mind that the entire shell shares the same resources.
Changing the 16px explorer icon will also change the one on the title bar, on the taskbar, whenever you're browsing through a open/save/extract/etc.. window, the tree menu, the address bar, and so forth..
I don't see why this would break anything.
However, jlee, is there anything that could be detrimental on? Like something where you have to pick an icon and if the icon is not there then you can't find it?
Theres only one thing I know of, and that's the icon on the top-left titlebar that lets you access the generic functions.. "move, minimize, restore, maximize, close, etc"... and even if you're to use a transparent icon, it doesn't mean you CAN'T click on it. you just can't see it.
So yeah.. it's pretty harmless in my opinion.. since if theres any case where the icon would show up, it'll 99.99% of the time be tagged with the text "my computer" or something..
I'm not giving any kind of guarantees however, since it doesn't mean theres an app out there that uses that icon as a button of some sort.
