Ive been playin with Linux for a little while now and I use XMMS. Its OK but not great. If its the best Linux mp3 player Im shocked. Usually music is a big part of computer peoples lives. At least the ones Ive come in contact with.
If anyone can tell me of a mp3 player that is better, Ide like that. ![]()

well, Linux isn't as big of a multimedia platform as Windows XP and Mac OS X, and not as many people use Linux as the other two OS's so it's not surprising that there aren't many multimedia players.
Why don't you like it??
Theres plenty of good command line MP3 players ![]()
You could write great scripts with them.
GUI programs in general have only recently "taken off".
But you may want to look at "RhythmBox". Its a pretty neat music player.

Also, there are thousands of Plugins for XMMS, im sure theres one for whatever is missing from it.
i love xmms.. only thing im disapointed with is i can hear a sound quality difference between linux and windows
i have a soundblaster live card.. in linuxe uses that uhh emusb1k or somthing driver i forget what its called.. but.... its not as good sounding as winamp on windows...

I dont know why, Creative develops the driver (Emu10k1) for both Linux and Windows. Its not like some hack.
yeah im not sure... i notice that winamp on windows is the best sounding player out of qcd and others... its just much more vibrant with winamp
and in linux i cannot have the volumn in xmms to be 100% or else the bass sounds scratchy.. i have to keep it at say 80% and then use the physical volumn on my speakers to make it louder.. i just dont understand
happens on both boxes of linux
on mandrake and slackware for me anyways

Have you tried using the ALSA mixer?
As root, do "alsamixer"
It allows you to control every aspect of your cards volume (input/output). On my SB Audigy, it has over 15 different controls.
I always get the volume just right.

Wow I feel inspired to make a windows version of that.
Please somebody stop me from coding ![]()
*starts coding*
Well, there is a Windows port of GTK2, so you could probobly just port the program without too much trouble.
You would just have to rip out all the gstreamer guts.
To be honest contra i think it would be easier to recode it. ![]()
Hey, go for it. (Y)
You could still use the Win version of GTK2 to make your program look just like it. Telmo has experience in programming with GTK,so you can talk to him.
But remember, its GPLed, so you can use any of the code from it, as long as you allow others to get that code if they want. (which isn't a problem, as its on the Rhythmbox site).
i agree Rhythmbox, but it is really unstable, its starting to get alot of work now though. and also this new one i found the other day on the Gentoo forums in a topic named the same as this. the player 'Musik'
Awesome Library and Playlist GUI.
Here's a shot, hey there is a win32 version too, just noticed that. it Runs good as well.
they use a few wrong gtk controls in places but its nice.
It hasnt crashed yet. been using a few days handles alot of songs nicely too.
