Actually, I saw on Digg that the new iPod may be controlled by a touch sensitive back panel. Apple filed a patent for it. Doesn't necessarily mean that Apple will use this but an interesting idea none-the-less. And I don't need a touch-screen iPod, just an anodized aluminum one. That would be freakin' sweet.
Cool Idea:
A while ago, I suggested that the 6th gen iPod should have BlueTooth capabilities, the idea being that you could just stick your iPod by your computer, and have it automatically sync. When it was done syncing, you could just put it in your pocket. That way, it would be completely wireless. However, someone pointed out (rather wisely) that charging it would pose a problem.
But... I was reading in Popular Science this month that there was a new technology being developed that could charge electronic devices (such as a cell phone or iPod) using radio waves. Imagine if you plugged a small, USB base thing into your computer. Then, you bring your iPod anywhere near the computer, turn it on, and it will automatically sync, charge and transfer files wirelessly. When you're done, you eject it like usual, put the iPod to sleep, and put it in your pocket. Neat-o, huh?

With Bluetooth you'll get 700kbps, or 2.1mbps if your lucky on the newer spec. In comparison, Firewire can manage 400mbps or 800 depending on the spec. Still want to use bluetooth to transfer your songs?

If they really wanna go Wireless syncing and stuff.... Bluetooth lacks the bandwidth. Imagine how bleedingly slow the transfers would be (specially videos). WiFi-N is currently only options to provide higher data-transfer rate, but it would be pig on battery I suppose. Plus I'm not sure how compact you can make device adding WiFi module, I doubt apple will fatten up iPod like Zune.
And... if you're anyway going to stick your iPod to some wired source for charging.. why not use USB or FW400/800. It served both purposes(sync+charge).. makes more sense to me.
I didn't say that it'd be to a wired source. I said that there would be a base station hooked up via USB that would both charge and sync wirelessly.
And, yes, I forgot about Bluetooth bandwidth limitations. I meant Wi-Fi. I'm sure Apple's engineers will come up with a way to make a Wi-Fi module more compact.
I feel you mate... but I think we will see significant timespan till wireless charging comes down to consumer (read affordable) level.

Oh, yeah. No doubt about that. Perhaps they'll put it on the higher-end model, so there's more reason for the price jump.

I just cant justify the extra price for a wifi component in the pod...
I mean, yeah the word WiFi is cool, and it gets touted around these days... but how would Apple implement it?
Song sharing- Zune copy-cat. Apple doesnt want to be doing that, specially when the iPod is popular and unique without needing to immitate.
Furthermore- Song sharing or 'squirting' is restrictive due to copyright (max four plays? and you could only do so with other 'wifi iPod' users).
Wireless Sync- This is more likely. I have often thought 'I dont feel like connecting up my iPod, why can't it just wirelessly sync automatically!'. While this idea is very 'cool' and 'practical', Its a waste of money to people who have a computer that doesnt have wireless capabilities.
Wireless headphones- good if your a runner I guess... to the rest of us, theres no real point, other than the 'cool' factor again. And you have to buy wireless headphones! (unless you like Apple's earbuds)...
