Backlit LED displays

I'm just wondering what's the difference between apple displays that are out now and these new apple displays with led-backlit technology that will be coming out later this year, i'm holding off on buying a 30 inch apple display until i understand what's the difference between the two, should i wait to see the new apple displays or buy now? can someone tell me what's backlit-led tech, is it that much better than the current ones?

here's what you should do: buy the 30" now, for me. i'll let you know how it is. then you can buy the 30" led-backlit for yourself, and tell me how it is.

so far as i've heard, LED backlights help increase the brightness of the picture, and don't fade over time (although i've never seen the backlight of an lcd display fade)

Not sure about fading problem (LCD vs. LED-backlit)... but...

LED Backlit displays does away with extra backlighting that required by LCDs, thus making screens more thinner.

Secondly, LED backlit displays consume less power compared to LCD displays (LCD + backlight obviously take more power), thus good for power saving on laptop batteries.

LED's are also environmental friendly compared to LCD (the chemical used in LCD displays).

@Skyline R34 : Not sure, how soon LED backlit cinema displays are coming... as for now I'm aware about Apple's plan to implement LED backlit displays in their laptops (and possibly iMac next). I guess Cinema Displays must be on menu after that.

I would hope they found a way to disperse the light evenly across the entire screen. I've had a monitor backlight go out, these should just about put an end to that.

I can't find the link of one document which I read some time back. According to which, LED backlights can be implemented in a way to provide even backlighting across the screen or dynamic area (specially for black areas appearing on screen), so that you get higher contrast ratios and deep blacks (as against gray tint we get sometimes on LCD screens over black areas).

As for backlighting going kaput!... I believe LED backlighting has more lifespan compared to LCD backlighting.
