Wordpress user restrictions

hey everyone,

i recently ran into a problem with my blog. i want to my friends to be able to write their own pages and blogs. the problem is when i gave them write privileges, i unknowingly gave them the ability to delete posts and comments by other users. is there a way to restrict them so that they can only write pages and blogs, without being able to delete posts and pages?
