Looking for a way to watch TV on my computer monitor...

I got enough money and I want to buy a TV tuner or some type of box to let me watch TV on my computer monitor. My old, CRT type television broke and well, no TV in the room I'm in.

Can some one help me spot out a TV tuner or some digital box that I can get in order to do this? If not, then I've just gotta buy a TV again... And that shouldn't be fun.

Products from Pinnacle and Hauppauge should suite you just fine. Be sure to go for the double tuner, this way you can record a tv-show, and zap through the channels at the same time. A single tuner only allows one or the other. Also to relieve your cpu from hard work, look for a card with a hardware-based video encoder. A card with all the above functions will set you back round 150-200 Euros though.

How about US Dollars? :)

And what do you mean ' hardware-based ' ?

Hardware-based meaning: the chip used to encode your recorded videos, is on the pcb of the card itself. In this way your processor is free to do other stuff, instead of encoding.

And for the price in dollars, check your local dealers. I would bet though it would be around the 100-130 dollars.

Hm... Do you think I'd be better off just buy a TV (LCD most likely) and just hooking up my monitor to that?

PL that doesnt sound like a bad idea but you wouldnt be able to do both and i think what you want to do is be able to be on the comp and watch tv :). My pc came with the cable tv plugg so i am able to watch tv and be on the pc at the same time all i needed to do was install the ATI multimedia center and i was set :).

I wouldn't want to watch the TV and the computer at the same time. It's just that the electric bill went up A LOT so I'm trying to conserve some energy around this place.

Alright, thanks for the help every one, I'll figure something out.
