Got quirk?

I had one of those rare, yet slightly disturbing insights last night.

I was playing a new album in iTunes when I accidently hit the iTunes volume slider. I'm pretty sure the default iTunes skin provides feedback on the volume level - Kavin's Milk skin, however, does not. Shock, horror! So now I wasn't able to tell whether the volume resided at an "equal" level.

Turns out I've got this semi-autistic disposition where I have to have the volume set at an even numbered level! I walked around my appartment, and sure enough, all the volume buttons were perfectly alligned on "12", "20", "40" etc, from the TVs to the Hifi. Scary s**t. Nothing freudian, i hope!

So, care to share your quirk(s)? It would make me feel slightly less like a freak.

My volumes are always multiples of five.

I have a ton of other obsessions, but they're only readily apparent when I have them. Things like I must grab the spoon and bowl before I get the milk, and then place those on the table and then get the cereal, and then sit down, and then add the cereal, and then add the milk, and then add the sugar before I start eating.

Why yes I have a very light case of Asperger's. :P

#453008

asparagus tastes nasty on cereal.

I have a few quirks but i've forgotten them, maybe that was my quirk, i don't remember.

#453023

my room is tidy, always. Books sorted, clothes folded, objects aligned. Always scares people when they see it for the first time...

Ah yes. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's slightly anal about everything. Although, I think I'm more anal than most:

- I am adament that lights should be turned off if you're not using them. So much so that I walk around the house flicking off lights.

- If you're done with the microwave, yet it hasn't reached "0", don't leave it on "0:02". Press the Stop/Clear button.

- My room is typically extremely tidy.

- My laptop and external hard drive are both aligned to the same line on my desk, and are spaced so that the distance between the computer and hard drive is the same as from the hard drive to the edge of the work surface of my desk (I have a slab of a special material so as not to damage the hardwood that my desk is made of).

- My volume controls are, like Dave's, in multiples of 2.

- For whatever reason, whenever I climb a staircase, my left foot is the first one on the next level. I don't know why.

I'm sure there are more. But I'm lazy right now.

Hmm, now that you remind me, I do some of those. I fix the microwave, put my harddrive right on my desk, start with my right foot, and stuff like that. I also have to get everything I can off my computer's desktop, I want it clear (so much that I hide the stuff on it completely with a haxie)

I do that. I don't have anything on my desktop ever except for drives.

Every clock I use have to be on the second in synch with each other. You don't know how I LOATH when the power goes out.

And related, I, hate, hate, HATE it when I, or anybody else, is late. A time is set, obey it, or don't set one to begin with.

Don't touch me. Honestly, I hate being touched. I've hugged my sister-in-law a total of 4 times in the 5 years I've known her (once when she met me and didn't know that rule, another when by bro and her got married, another random event (I think I drank a couple), and lastly when they announced they were pregnant).

When I go to sleep, it needs to be completely silent and pitch black dark. I have never been able to fall asleep in a car, plane, at school or in the day if I don't have thick curtains because of this.

My room, and desk, a complete ****ing mess. :P

Goddamn, I'm a total mess.

It's like my reflection!

there's one that i think only i have, I love to read at night when everything is dead silent, I can't really enjoy it any other way, in classes i grab the material given and take it home to read, because i just can't stand noise when I read, it's not distracting it's repulsive, I can't read in planes, cars etc

When I am driving there must be music, not pounding through the speakers but it has to be there, otherwise I become distracted and pay attention to the gazillion things that others are doing in their cars, or those that walk, or look at those that are walking, the leaves rustling, birds, everything O_o

First one, I definitely agree with. It's completely frustrating when the power goes out, because then every clock has to be put into sync with each other.

The second, I love on principal, but in practice I find it to be near-impossible. At least with me.

Exposed wires drive me mental. When ever I get new hardware; tablet, ipod dock, external hard drives, I alter my desk/drill holes &/or re-wire the hardware to hide it all. All my power suply, wire bundles, external hard drives are bolted underneath my desk, out of eye site. Clean, tidy and simplistic is the only way I can work.

#453149

I'm actually sort of like that too, I have all my wires of different electronics hidden, rubber-banded, taped etc, I hate it when i see loose wires, but i can live with it and only "clean" them up if I'm not lazy

#453150

I wouldn't know where to start with this one...

#453170

Phew, I'm glad I'm not the only one with issues! Note to self: Remember not to invite dreadnaut over, since the mess will probably give him a heart attack, not to hug Wizard (fat chance!), and to keep nicolasheer away from my stairs and the light switches.

#453174

I also don't like being touched, usually cause every person I know is either a pig (oink), or cause I just don't feel clean afterwards and so I wash my hands etc.

- I don't like people putting rented dvds into the computer for watching, as they have been used by millions of people beforehand.

- I make sure every Tap and Light Switch that I use is turned off tightly x100.

- I don't like carrying things in my pockets (considering I dislike them) and only take things that I absolutely MUST, like money etc.

- I like to put the TV volume to 7 before turning it off in the day and either 7 or 11 at night.

- I watch kids cartoons in the morning/afternoon rather than the BORING news and mostly Disney ones on the weekend.

I have a million more I'm sure...

#453191

I got quite used to other's people places - my ex-girlfriend was quite messy, but I managed to refrain from dying, screaming or just clean up the place (most of the time). The important thing is that you don't leave me alone in a room for too long, or I will probably start aligning things or straightening painting frames :D

#453202

Weirdo... :P

@ Ickis

I make sure every Tap and Light Switch that I use is turned off tightly x100.

What's that mean?

#453205

I used to walk on tiles in certain orders, I still relapse into that sometimes.

I make up patterns on stairs, like 3 steps, skip a step, and so on.

Milk in bowl before cereal.

Blanket over head when I sleep. (how did I not suffocate as a child?).

I get very nervous in groups of people when there's no one I know, I end up just looking at my feet, while walking quickly.

I press cancel on microwaves too.

And I have to always be doing something with my hands, if you want to drive me crazy just duct tape my arms to my sides.

I get weird about volume levels too, usually just with the tv though.

#453219

i hate people who press cancel on microwaves!

i always have to be listening to music, otherwise begin to go abit crazy and i start humming it (you can't really sing too much electronic) and that drives other people crazy.

me too about volume levels, and i have a weird approach to tidying up: i don't create a mess in the first place (yeah i actually avoid taking stuff out of its place)

i also do that thing wizard does, i sync every clock in time with one another. Turns out my grandad does that too, when someone puts a clock 5 minutes or 15 minutes out on purpose it screws up my schedules...

also, doesn't everyone walk on pavement tiles in a pattern? i hate it when you reach the tar though, you've gotta find something else, like stick on the one bit that wasn't dug up and repatched..tar is asphalt for all you americans :)

#453222

Im a fidget. My legs/feet MUST always be in motion, or else i feel uncomfortable as hell. (probably from mostly sleeping, laying still at sou-'oaks.)

When i look at something, I always clear it out...(ex. pressing cancel on microwaves, Pressing cancel on my printer, turning the stove knob, things like that.)

My desk always has to be neat. My room is a different story. My room is a jungle, and in the corner, everything is neat and tidy. No wires exposed (that drives me nuts), my keyboard and mouse pad aligned perfectly on the slider, my monitor pushed all the way back, books stacked in size order, Computer aligned to the side of the desk...even my desk light has to be stright flat. Nothing on top of each other, as this makes me feel unconfortable cuz i feel i might need whatever is on bottom.

My phone always has to be on the base when its not in use. My TV remote is always on top of the TV (again, perfectly aligned), right next to my sixaxis, also aligned next to the TV. (im beginning to think i got OCD :o)

To make a long story short, everything i own is always aligned...perfectly.

Color-blindness is a b!tch. Nothing blue/purple in my room is next to one another. Same with green/yellow, hot red/blue, pink/red, turquoise/white....Mostly everything is black in my room anyway :P.

Everything is even. My TV volume counts by 2's....2/4/6/8/10 etc. this applies to basically everything.

I do things out of curiosity to even things i know are already there or not.

ex, pressing my iPods middle button, searching for lyrics on it when i already know there isnt any for that song. I press the eject button on my PC even though i know there isnt a disc inside.

Every window must be maximized. If its not, its closed :P. i dont know why, thats just how i have it.

Even my chats, the windows are maximized.

All doors that i shut are locked. I shut my door, I lock it. I dont even know i do it half the time.

Constantly pressing the start button/apple menu.

I know whats there, but if i get stuck (like i forget what i wanted to just do) i automatically go to the Start button or apple menu.

When im taking a car ride, i make the outside a "game". I take my hand, put it out the window, and make it go over the cars that I pass by that are parked  Or, i'd take my head, and "bob" it up and down when i pass houses, or whatever.

I do this when im walking, skating, whatever.

I always need to be able to lean on something...At school, i sit against the wall so i can lean against it. In the car, i lean against the door. If i sat on a stool, i would go crazy.

I have the urge to stare at flashing things...Like my cable modem...it would catch my eye, and i would just stare blankly at it. (thank you, ADD )

Window blinds (not the app, the household item :P) must be shut all the way, and tilted all the way until they overlap each other.

NO WRINKLES!!! My blanket must be wrinkle free. Same thing goes for the couch, and clothes. I am constantly re-straightening my sweatshirt out, otherwise i feel uncomfortable....

I also walk in patterns on the sidewalk

GOD! i can go on for days. If i think of anymore, ill edit this :P:confused:

#453224

What a freak.. :)

My uncle has the same "wrinkle issue" he goes practically insane while ironing his stuff

@ wizard: poke! you should adopt the "can't touch this" motto

#453229

lmfao. and, thank you for the complement :P

#453231

The important thing is that you don't leave me alone in a room for too long, or I will probably start aligning things or straightening painting frames :D

So, what you're basically saying is that if I left you alone, my place would be all shiny and new when I got back, hehe? Why don't I have any friends like you?

What's the deal with always having to put chordless phones, mice etc. back in their bases? Kinda defeats the purpose, right? I guess it just feels right. Oh, and am I the only one putting the milk in before the coffee?

BTW: I'm voting for an official Aqua-Soft pavement tile race. Not being held back by having to proceed in patterns I'm bound to win! I can almost taste the victory.

#453232

Crikey guys...chill. Drink some beer!

#453233

eeh.. im due for another a Bud anyway :P

EDIT:

i hate brick sidewalks!!!! To small!!!!
