Boot XP while running Vista
Um, well what I did was partition my primary hard drive into two partitions. I made about 40GB for XP and 40GB for Vista. I then installed XP ( Since I had a new hard drive ) And then installed Vista into the second partition after. I now have a dual boot machine in which I share files through both operating systems.
Google search works well also.
@ spyro94: You could use the folder to copy it to another partition and then modify the bootmanager, but this is a lot of work.
I recommend you the following:
- Uninstall Vista [you did an upgrade, so XP should be restored after uninstalling the new OS]
- Create a new partition for Vista
- Put the Vista DVD inside your DVD-drive and install it but choose that you want to do a full installation and not an upgrade and say Vista that you want to install it on the new partition.
- After the installation, you can now choose with every if you want to run Vista or XP before booting on of those.
erm...why not just setup another partition and install xp on it then drag the files you need from the old xp into the new one then install the programs again?
How can I setup another partition and put XP on it? I don't have an XP instalation disc, it just came with my laptop...

my brother ran into this problem last night, he didnt get a boot up disk with his computer and needed a freash copy of XP..
go to your local computer store, market whatever, and ask for a copy of whatever version you were running along with the year of your machine, and they should give (or sell it to you for a very low price) it to you because theyre not selling the XP cd theyre selling the **digit activation code, the CD is worthless, my brother when to MDG and didnt even need to show the recipt, and they just handed him a new XP pro disk, the resion they dont send a disk with the PC is just a ploy to save money,

Also, a few months ago I was running Vista Ultimate RC2 as my only operating system, and than wanted to install XP; big headach(I dont know if things have changed since RC2, but I was unable to go to my XP side of the computer because XP wasnt the primary OS, and it just didnt work, XP had to be the primary, and Vista had to be secondary or elece the 'select your operating system' feautre didnt work and I was totaly unable to run XP. But that could of been just me messing up) The best way to do it is Install XP than install, dualboot Vista on its own partision, this way also when you start up your computer your confronted with an option; Which operating system... Vista, XP"
I have the vista ultimate (retail version) installed and before it boots you see a menu with windows vista and older os and choose older os (im not sure if it says older os but it's something like that) and it will boot xp. for your problem i would suggest vista boot pro (http://www.vistabootpro.org/) just uninstall the vista boot.ini (from the bootloader tab) to run xp and install it to run vista.

I really wanna boot XP instead of vista on my PC but i can't remove my OS. I should still have it on my 120gb hard drive but i accidentally chose to stick with vista on my PC when it asked me what OS to boot on. *slaps head*
The thing is though, i wasn't sure if i cud shut it down and boot it up but in vista that time.
If you wanna make a partition just get Norton Partion Magic 8.0 and resize your primary one so that there is at THE VERY LEAST 15GB for vista. And no disc means you just gotta get an installation disc
That's not very useful because i have a 40gig partition with vista, a 20 gig partition with XP (not working) and a 100 gig partition of xp (even more busted up)
I have a good theme for OSX on my vista pc so i'm happy now anyway
yes you can boot bot , while you install the vista into your computer, chose fresh copy option means , you have to need to make dual boot your pc for this purpose.
If you upgraded your OS from XP to Vista then there are no option for you to boot the both OS.
Actually there is, if you have an upgrade version of vista, you just need to install it the first time without putting in a cd key.
Then once your vista is up and running, you'll put the vista cd in again and do an upgrade (yes you can upgrade vista to vista "same version") then put in your key and it'll activate fine. This works in XP and I've used it on my old HP with Vista.
