Just take a screenshot and use the color picker once pasted in paint.

Hexadecimal color is simply #FFFFFF (6 letters A-F or numbers 0-9) (can be also written 0xFFFFFF , the 0x means it's something hex).

Hex colors are mostly used in web pages.

i gave the guy the selection colors because that's most likely what he wanted them for. yes they are usually gradients (spotlight, finder sidebar, etc) but at the core os x is flat blue and graphiteness 8-)
