How did you end up with your job/career?

Hey guys, I've been looking around on these forums for a while now. I wanted to thank everybody for sharing all of their work.

Anyways I recently graduated from college and started my job as a System Admin...unfortunately I don't really like doing what I'm currently doing. I just started to learn some Photoshop, Dreamweaver, HTML, and ASP.net. I think I wanted to get into web design/development.

Anyways, I was wondering if you could enlighten me abit and tell me 1. What you are doing for a living? 2. How long have you been doing it?, 3. What got into the field? and 4. Why do you enjoy?

Also, for you graphic gurus, how did you get a solid grasps on Photoshop?

I'm a software eng. for a west coast company. I also own 2 medium sized Comptuer rapair shops. I got into programming when an ole college buddie needed help at his work. I coded up a module for a Sun Blade 8000 P Modular System. His boss then offerend me a job. I worked for ati for almost 3 years developing drivers and trying to design new shader techniuqes. Now I do at home work. I do debugging and controlled software testing.

i'm just a repair Technician, i repair components curcuit board sometimes i do work with guy like u guys (Engineering) i'm working in this field for many years now, i love computing as well.

just happened stumble and found Aquasoft many Art, designers, developers very interesting to me because i can draw as professional unfortunately i'm not good at photoshop and still learning hopefully sometimes in the near future i got something out of it ;)

im a student. ive been doing it for...10 years :)

i like to draw. My school teachers and other people often come to me to design things for them.

I also like to play basketball. i am on my school's basketball team, im a starting point guard.

just thought i'd share that :)

I've been in the IT industry for nearly 15 years.

I'm a network security consultant, programmer and I run my own web design service on the side.

How did I end up doing this?

Don't really recall. After school, I just started out as an mechanic and got into tuning on-board ECM's (Engine Control Modules for those that don't understand) in cars and just went from there.

You had to know how to program back when I started doing it. Now you can go buy a software package to do all the hard work.

Anyway... in short... that's how I got to where i am today.

I handed in a resume with my high school results, smiled innocently and got a job as a Barista (coffee maker, no im not a lawyer or 'above the bar' just yet :P ) ...

So now i make coffees day in and day out... sux really.

1. What you are doing for a living? I work at Safeway part time, and I do graphic/web design and development most of the other time. I'll pick the job that pertains more to this forum.

2. How long have you been doing it? Only a couple of years. I did web design before graphic design, but I think they go hand-in-hand.

3. What got into the field? I figured that my long hours of having Photoshop open would be better put to use.

4. Why do you enjoy it? I make money and I get to do something I really enjoy. Safeway is the more consistent job, where I'm almost guaranteed to get shifts every week (we're short-staffed). My design work is freelance, but it still makes me money.

How did I learn Photoshop? A LOT of time spent in it. Photoshop is probably the most opened application on my computer apart from Safari.

1. What you are doing for a living?

Right now, I'm a paid student and a paid worker in our computer labs for tech support. Basically, I'm the friendly helpful face of everything UTD's tech department has to offer. It also means I have to just intrinsically know what makes everything tick and correct problems. I'm going to go back into summer biology research when June hits.

2. How long have you been doing it?

About a year now.

3. What got into the field?

To be honest, I just got this job. The field I'm going into is statistics. I really like math, but don't like the monotony of what dedicated mathematicians study. Statistics lets me study census data, financial information, research figures in any field, and, lest I need a good paying job, insurance rates (actuary). I like using math as a practical tool. I'm starting by taking the dedicated math major at UTD with statistics option (not the applied math version).

4. Why do you enjoy it?

Explained above. I love my current job because I like dealing with users, love my coworkers, and enjoy the freedom to watch youtube throughout my shift if I choose.
