Javascript/RSS

I am trying to make a gadget for sidebar, anyone know how I can display the 5 most recent posts from an rss feed using javascript and how I have to set it up to work in windows?

Search around (i.e. Google) for Yahoo! Widgets RSS feeds--I believe those are written in Javascript, so you can cannibalize some code from there.
