Yes.... especially seeing as I dont use Xbox live to buy movies etc, i'd rather use itunes store and buy an Apple TV... they are all competing to take over our living room and entire houses.... and to have it working best you need to buy all of one brand (ie- vista + xbox 360 OR Mac+ipod+apple tv etc...)... bastards.

Okay i can understand them not including the hddvd drive because everybody knew that was highly unlikely, besides i like the idea of giving the customer the option to choose if they want to spend extra money for a addon player but no 65nm cpu? i think ill wait until the white elite version comes out which will include the smaller cpus. ***in a gay tone*** black is so last gen hence why the PS3 has been sucking as of late.

Dont worry the new elite version will be quietier then their previous model, i still want my 65nm processor though and until they do that i guess we'll have to wait until all the elite ones are sold out before they do add the new cpu.

put it this way- I currently have a video recorder, Hard drived based and with a 80gb hard drive (it lacks hdmi)... its not bad.... BUT I would much prefer to have ONE unit that does it all, with HDMI quality, a 120gb hd and gaming as well ....because otherwise its just another box, another remote control and its just irritating having to switch remotes and AV modes all the time....

I doubt the 65nm cpu... how many 'normal' consumers (ie- uneducated games, non -techheads) would really choose one over the other.... they're more likely to choose based on colour than on its internals.

As for black- I like black, it matches my TV better... and im gay, and I say its not so last gen, so there.

sad news to report, the new sku is permanent and will not replace any sku's, meaning that the rumored white elite sku with the new processors that was supposed to take over the premium sku once the black elite sku was sold out is no more. so now we have 3 sku's to choose from, great as if the mundane consumer wasnt confused enough now they wont know what the hell to choose. im really fustrated bout the cpu and i really dont wanna get a black 360, but i guess ill have to if i want 1080p and able to download a buttload of stuff off the marketplace and arcade.

also whats with PS3 making great sales over in europe, better launch sales then 360 & Wii. no offense but are you euro's that ignorant and mainstream to the point where youll shell down more money then the US and Jap towards a inferior model that been delayed for who knows how long and does not include the genuine PS2 hardware necessary for backward compatability. bet everybodys parading around the streets of london with their new glossy george forman brick ovens yelling G-G-G-Unit.

Personally I wouldn't dream of spending £400 / $800 on a games console... Its just not my thing.

As far as backwards compatibility I can't remember ever putting a PS1 game in my PS2 why should it really be that much different with the PS2 to the PS3, besides like your PS2 is worth anything now any how, so if you were that bothered you'd stash it and use it when you wanted to play an old PS2 game!?

yes u can plug in an external HDD to the xbox, via USB. It should read like any other USB media device (eg- mp3 player)...

well were far from deciding who will be the victor, hddvd or bluray so you cant say that bluray being standard on PS3 is a good thing yet. again i like the choice microsoft gives to gamers, if you wanna just play games and arent currently concerned about watching hd movies then you can buy the tard pack or premium sku and later down the road buy the addon. if they made the hddvd drive standard then the price wouldve been alot higher and many people wouldnt have easily chosen the 360 over PS3, atleast here in america.

i think microsoft's elite sku is a better offer then PS3 both pricewise and featurewise. on one side you got bluray, hdmi, a bunch of memcard readers youll probably never use anyways, a decent sized hd, and for japan and america virtually full backward compatability and now has to rely on emulation (its rumored that europe was just a test run, and that sony will soon remove the hardware necessary for BC on american models as well sometime in the near future) total costing you 600, we all know the tard pack isnt worth mentioning. 360 elite on the other hand offers you a quietier running system with 120gb hd, full 1080p hdmi with cables included, superior online all for 120 less then sony's top sku. imo 360 has a better deal going then sony not to mention most of sony's beloved 3rd party games are now also coming out for 360 as well such as VF5, Assassins Creed, Devil May Cry, GTAIV, Ace Combat 5, Tekken on top of microsoft's 1st party and 3rd party exclusives like Lost Oddessy, Mass Effect, and ofcorse the fierce Halo 3. dont be surprised if some developer takes over the right to port over MGS4 onto 360 sometime in the near future.

backwards compatability is important because for one it saves space, you dont need to have your PS1/2 pluged in whenever you have that itch to play some old games and with a library like sony's youll eventually wanna play some of those memorable games again, just pop it in your PS3 and your set and since your paying $600 for a gaming system youll want everything sony initially offered. hell i still plug in my genesis/snes from time to time to play some streets of rage 2 or chrono trigger.

Hmm it appears we have some non believers amongst us, let me outline my opinion on why i think everyone who currently owns an Xbox 360 should be very disappointed with Microsoft and their $3.2b Marketing Campaign.

Firstly, the Xbox 360 Elite Edition is nothing new and wonderful, it is essentially the same hardware in a different coloured box with two add-ons that were always needed to be classed as a High Definition, Next Generation Console, with these absent from the current generation Xbox 360 Console i never considered it to be truly a HD machine.

Microsoft want you to fork out a whopping $470.00 for the privilidge of owning an Xbox 360 Elite, with two additions you should have always had on from the start, HDMi and 120GB Hard Disk, how they expect to release a Video Marketplace with HD content when there users are restricted to around 10GB with Game Data is absolutely beyond me.

If they offer a good trade in option for current generation owners then i may loosen the grip on them, however i feel its grossly unfair that they expect people to pay for another console with two minor add-ons, the core is still the same, the heat issues remain so on and so forth, now if they revamped the machine and made it faster, cooler and so on, It would justify their motives more.

PlayStation 3 as it stands is currently victorious in the Next Generation War, and those of you who say it isn't and im a PlayStation Fanboy, let me say this to you, firstly Blu-Ray is outselling HD-DVD in every chart on the planet by 3-1, Casino Royale is the first Blu-Ray movie to make the Amazon top ten sales chart, but above all, Blu-Ray enables a potentially massvie 50GB of storage on a disc, as games get graphically better, worlds get larger and more immersive, this space is instrumental to developers, no more compressing audio/video, hi resolution visuals or streamed textures, you get it in full HD glory.

Microsoft for me missed a chance to really plough themselves into the number one position in this next gen war, everybody suspected a new version was on the horizon, and they should have done much much more with it, improved the cooling dramatically, added a better cpu for more power, increased the GPU - if theyre redesigning it to add on HDMi and the larger HD they may aswell do the rest of it, and bring into line power wise at least with the PS3.

As it stands however you just feel its a half hearted effort on Microsofts part, oh we'll add HDMi and the larger Hard Drive and sell it for more money without any changes to the core system, you still get the same CPU/GPU and RAM as you get in the very very basic Xbox360 and this for me simply is not good enough, at least with the PlayStation 3 both models have built in HDMi and Hard Drive which makes it easier to develop games for, as the current 360's one has a HD and the other doesnt ... developers have to assume its as good as not having a HD in either.

So there you go Microsoft missed their chance, if the Elite sells mankind is even stupider, if they offer a good trade in option (lets face it they can always re use the stuff inside on new elites maybe) then that might soften the sting, but for now Blu-Ray and PlayStation 3 are the choice of me, and i would highly reccomend you aswell.

I am amazed i had the patience to read AJR1's post all the way through; and i agree with it totally.

The thing is, i'd still want a 360 if it had a blu-ray player on it, i'm disappointed to see how we are going to see hd-dvd being used in just 360 games in the near future, because i'm pretty sure it won't sell too well for movies etc.

I too completely agree with AJR1. However there's one thing I want to point out, the entry level PS3 (20GB HDD) does not have HDMI, it is only featured on the higher end one.

Im pretty annoyed with the xbox360 at the moment..

I like the system and all but one of the main reasons for me getting the xbox was for backwards compatibility as my xbox broke due to hdd failure a few months before the xbox360 launch date.

So i bought the xbox360 on the second shipment(no I didn't stand in line its too cold to do that) but I still needed an xbox to play my xbox games.

No hdmi output didn't bug me to much as my tv only has one dvi in which is taken by my dvd player. No 1080p didn't bother me either since my tv only supports up to 1080i. But those were two things I wish it did have it as a next gen console.

One thing I think they should have is some sort of trade up for the HDD at least. My hdd is basicly full on my 360 thanks to FFXI it only leaves me with about 4 gig's of space. Not to mention all the Live arcade games I have been getting lately. I can't even enjoy any of the HD video downloads due to the lack of space.

One problem I do see about updating the internal specs of the system is, once they do that most of the games that come out designed on the newer 360 the older 360's wont be able to handle the games anymore. I have a feeling m$ might be making a xbox360^2 in the near future to try and out do ps3 performance wise.

this might suggest that cooler chip (e.g. 65 nm technology) IS a major selling (or not selling) point for this unit.

i thought i was the only one holding out for a non-ring of death unit, but it seems shady thinks the same way. i wonder how many people are waiting for more reliable boxes. which could be why they aren't selling more.

Powerwise PS3 and 360 is equal, developers views them equal in power which is why you see alot of PS3 games also coming out for 360. Even Kojima stated that MGS4 can be done on 360 but he perfered to make a brand new game for it instead. Not to mention games are more difficult to develope for sony and they also have major bandwith issues.

The Elite is for people who want 1080p and need a bigger harddrive so they can download whatever they want without worrying about space. Believe it or not nobody cares about hd-dvd or bluray at the moment, and nobody will until theres a clearcut winner. My only gripe i had with 360 was that they did not include a harddrive to their lowerend sku but thats not a problem, most people are buying the premium version instead and it will continue to be microsofts top seller even though the elite is coming out and developers knows the harddrive plays a big role for 360 owners, it did with the original xbox and besides why do you think their including a bigger harddrive for? so you can download high def movies, music, games or whatever. For people who wont download all that stuff since they already have a pc that does all that then 20gb premium will do them just fine.

Also how can you say the PS3 is currently victorious in the console wars. clearly sony's struggling right now, microsofts on top while the Wii already sold 25% of Gamecubes total sales, if anything sony is doing horrible. 50gb discs really do we need all that space, maybe not today but sometime in the near future. thats all fine and good for sony since their planing on supporting the ps3 for a decade while both microsoft and nintendo will reveal their next system in another 4 years or so, who knows what theyll use then.

the purpose of this thread was to discuss the advantages of this elite console, (compared to the rest of the xbox range) and clarify the new technologies, not to slate it as a "ps3 killer" or "wii killer" ... or a hopeless misadventure by Microsoft.

Sure they might not have put new 65nm cpus in, but hdmi and the larger HD are still nice additions- to those who want them.

thats all i was saying, i never claimed 360 was a killer of any sort, i only stated the facts. AJR1 must have some unreliable sources if he believes PS3 is on top right now, theirs a good reason that its in 3rd place.

@ Slewed, if microsoft put games onto hd-dvds, itll totally demolish their current userbase and they know that. hd-dvd is only going to be used to view hd movies thats all, which is why they gave the option to the consumer, if bluray wins then oh well atleast you dont have to buy a 200 hddvd addon, its good that microsoft didnt make it standard on all systems and besides most games will fit on 360s dual layed dvds, if that fills up then theyll pack it in multidiscs just like the way sony did back in the PS days. if your too lazy to get up and switch discs in your dvd drive then you probably should drop the wireless controller, go out and get some actual excerise.
