Uninstall didn't work

I put FlyAKite on my IBM thinkpad on Friday of last week. It worked ok until today but then RK launcher started acting buggy and I wanted to do a clean install. I had taken the finder off the dock and couldn't figure out how to get it back on and my outlook was no longer workin from the dock. Anyway... I ran the uninstall and it only worked partially. All my icons are the same as they were with flyakite, my network drives do not show up, the boot screen and login screen are the same as flyakite with the window itself looking more like WinXP but the graphics are FLYAKite.

I tried running system restore and it says that nothing has changed on my computer since friday and thus the restore will not complete. I tried going back to Thursday but that didn't help. The computer works fine but this is my work computer so I need those network drives and it's annoying to have mismatched icons all over the place. Can anyone help me get back to where I was?

How many times have you restarted after uninstalling? Sometimes the change isn't picked up immediately, although others have reported similar problems...

You could also attempt to install FlyakiteOSX again, and then uninstall using the method provided in the FAQ on flyakite's website.

The same thing had happened to my ThinkPad T23; but I did an OS reinstall.

The only thing I can think off at the moment right now is to get a copy of either IconTweaker or IconPhile; and then download Metallicamaster3's Windows XP icons (they can be found in the Icon & Cursors subforum) and then manually replace them.

@NC: I didn't see anything about uninstalling on the link.. Or are you talking about the first one?

Yeah, the first one. It effectively uninstalls FlyakiteOSX, I believe. -NC

Back again. My computer is set to automatically set a restore point every morning. I had tried one on the same day I downloaded FAK and it didn't work (in addition to the FAK restore point). I just finished restoring to the earliest restore point saved on the computer, Wednesday of last week, and it worked!!!

I have to say I don't really want to go through that process again. It takes a looooonng time to restore. I am now completely caffeinated as I sat in the company snack bar chatting for over an hour and drinking coffee while it restored. (I sure am glad they pay me well for the work I do;))

The restore did list a folder at this location (C:WINDOWSFlyakiteOSX(2)) even after the restore which I think is odd. It was listed as a file that was renamed during the restore but there are no duplicates when you search the hardrive. The only thing in the folder are fonts, Lucida Grand and Lucida Grand Bold. I'm unsure why this was left on, however, I guess system restore doesn't erase your saved files so mabye that is what it was recognized as. All of the themes from FAK are still there as well and it booted to the ugly Eclipse wallpaper for some reason.My restore point was nearly a week before I ever downloaded FAK.

My next step is to to hopefully learn a bit more about this sofware before installing it again. I'm wondering if some of the other programs I downloaded after FAK screwed it up. I downloaded Open Office (doubtful problem in my eyes), Nexplorer (was buggy and may have screwed things up), IconTweaker (I'm not sure if this affects icons that aren't specifically changed by the program), Microangelo (I never used it but it's possible it did something).

any comments on what might have caused FAK to go buggy on uninstall. It of course could be my computer settings or the fact that it is a corporate computer with all that entails (network login and some settings set permenently by the company, etc...)

Any ideas would be appreciated. I loved having a Mac interface and will probably try again sometime in the future but if possible I'd like to have an idea of what I can do to keep it from going bad like this again. (I'm lucky in that I have no crucial data on the HD, it is all on network drives or on my USB stick)

Best advice: Try it on your own computer instead of the work one.

FAK (and other programs) creates a fun environment and I have a great looking MAC'd Laptop. I don't use it for work anymore but I could. But....it's my company so the computer workings belong to me and not others.

Also after FAK'ing and then some to a HP laptop, I bought a Macbook and I enjoyed the preview/transition experience that I learned about in these forums.

True, but I get to play on a 17" powerbook at home so I'm not lacking in the Mac department on my home computer.

As I said I don't have any files on the HD of this computer so the only risk is time lost, not losing crucial info. I'm fine with downloading it and running my computer as a Mac until IT tells me I can't. I think it's worth the time saved with having an easy to use interface.
