windows keyboard shortcut weirdness

okay, i have a folder called console2. in that folder, i have console2.exe and shortcut to console2.exe. i have assigned ctrl+shft+c to the shortcut. if this console2 folder is on the desktop, the shortcut works fine. but, if i move the folder to 'program files' it doesn't work. i have changed both the target and start in paths so it's correct and have even deleted and recreated the shortcut, just to be sure.

any ideas?

wxp, sp2.

thx!

update: i tried changing the keystroke combo, nfg. also, i searched the registry for the program name i'm shortcutting to, but it doesn't show up. baffling...

Has this ever happened before? I'm not 100% sure, but I think keyboard shortcuts only work for shortcuts on the desktop.

Silly Windows Workaround:

Move console2.exe and the folder to Program Files, make a shortcut for it on the desktop with the correct keyboard trigger, and then hide the shortcut :P.

i thought of that. but, how do i hide just that one shortcut? if i make it 'hidden,' it's just greyed out. i can then turn off 'show hidden files and folders,' but i don't wanna do that.

theres gotta be a desktop.ini setting for that...

how about hiding the shortcut on the quicklaunch.. then trying the hotkey combo..

not a bad idea. i'm not really interested in turning quicklaunch on, but i might as a last resort. thx.

This (and this, a similar article) should clarify things a bit. You could try hiding the shortcut in your Start Menu.

Sorry, I forgot that some people have hidden files showing. :P This makes my workaround rather pointless. If you want to give it a shot, try creating a shortcut with Windows Scripting. It's worth a try, and may allow you to create a shortcut outside the desktop or Start Menu.

Good luck!
