Problems after installing Flyakite and Goombah

Hi -

I'm having some major issues with my computer. Here are the ones that I'm aware of:

1) After I rebooted my desktop background was the default windows background

2) None of my quick launch icons are working

3) Internet explorer isn't working (thank g-d again for firefox)

4) When typing the cursor keeps going back a few spaces on its own

5) i have a little gray rectangle in the top left corner that I can't get rid of

I was trying to upgrade my computer today so I'm not sure which of the following caused the issue. I downloaded today:

1) FlyaKiteOSX v 3.5 - I tried installing it and it didn't install completely so I uninstalled it

2) Goombah - this wouldn't install

3) GreaseMonkey and some scripts from userscripts.org (but I don't think this is the root cause - if so it would only affect firefox, no?)

Has anyone had similar issues? Suggestions on how to fix this? My Norton expired 3 weeks ago so I've run AdAware and I'm currently runnng TrendMicro. Any advice would be VERY appreciated.

1) Can you change the Windows background back to what it was?

2) Try enabling and disabling Quick Launch.

5) Press Ctrl. + Alt. + Del., go to the Processes tab, and kill yzshadow.exe. First, you may want to go to the YzShadow preferences and prevent it from starting up with Windows.

Thanks for the reply NC.

I was able to change the background. I disabled quick launch and the re-enabled it but it still doesn't work. Furthermore, even if I go to start --> programs and then try opening a program it doesn't work - so it's not limited to quick launch. The only way I'm managing to open programs is via going to run --> c: and then finding the program.

I went to Windows Task Manager but there isn't anything called yzshadow.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again.

Some people have had similar problems with FlyakiteOSX, and we can't seem to find a cause.

I probably should have read your thread closer, though. So FlyakiteOSX is not currently installed? If not, I would reinstall it, but uncheck "Mplugin" by localhost this time around. Hopefully it will install correctly, and then you can uninstall it properly.

Also, the first FAQ on this page may apply to you. You could try doing that before installing FlyakiteOSX as per my suggestion above.

I don't have my windows cd at hand so I can't follow the advice of FAQ 1. I reinstalled but this time I installed everything because I couldn't find MPlugin to uncheck. This time the installation worked and I had my computer as if it was a Mac (weird experience). I uninstalled fully but it's still not working :-(. I'm really not sure what to do...any other tips?

Thanks again for all your help...I really appreciate it..

Hmm, I'm kinda running out of ideas. The computer is actually most usable when Flyakite is installed, at least in this case--have you considered trying that for a while? It's a shame that you don't have a Windows CD at hand.

Sorry :(,

I went a different route...

I used the windows system restore. It seems to have fixed everything...the only thing missing was my google toolbar - I don't seem to be missing anything else, and the computer seems to be working well.

Maybe this can be helpful to others in the future?

Thanks for your help throughout...
