Aqua-Soft ForumsI have a friend who has asked me to port some mac widgets he's made over to Yahoo! Widget Engine and possibly to Gadgets aswell. Anyone know of a tutorial on how to do this?

i second this! i would love Mac widgets on YWE
Generally, there's no easy way to port widgets from one platform to another. The process of porting Dashboard widgets to YWE will be different than porting them to Gadgets.
I believe YWE widgets are powered by Javascript, and Dashboard widgets are powered by pretty much the same thing (with a little Apple stuff thrown in there...I can't quite recall the name right now). You'll have to take a look at the Dashboard code and then port it over. I don't know of a tutorial, sorry.

There are general creation tutorials.
YWE has lot's off development doc's & a forum.

Me too; I want a Flight Tracker widget for AveDesk... Although it may be outside of AveDesk's capabilities..
Flight Tracker visualizes the flight path information by estimating the geodesic that most efficiently connects the depart and arrive locations around the earth. The software then uses a mercator projection to map this line onto the 2D map image, and estimates flight position.

Yeah. I think the thing we need is really to take the javascript and tweak it and make it work. The applescript will be hard, however.
Who knows how to port mac widgets to gadgets? I think I saw something online for gadets to YWE widgets.. I'll try find that again.

It's kind of a hard to specifically write a general tutorial on converting one widget format to another.
You're best to learn how to make one in the format you want then try converting on your own.
Also, if you're looking for Emulation in YWE didn't Kol do a major pack for Konfabulator years ago?

Unless I am confusing it with a similar widget, what this one does it convert YWE widgets into folders, so developers/learning developers can see what files widgets include and maybe customize widgets. Another use for that is after you have everything needed for a widget ready, you run your folder through there and it converts it into a working widget.
