I am running windows xp pro and when i double click any file folder, it opens up the search program. what is up with that. I need to know how to fix it because it is very frustrating. Please Please Help!
The old search nightmare eh?
You tried to change the folder icon for the default xp yellow folder, and now the action has jumped from the default open, to "search".
If you have no restore point, that is a nightmare, the only solution that I know is a format.
I am not joking, in many years of computing that is the only XP problem I came across that I couldn't solve without formatting.
If anyone knows a solution plz say so.
(hell i'd be surprised if anyone else has come across it)

Funny, I had this problem just two days ago, but completely missed this thread >.<
Anyway I tried rolling back to an old restore point..... no change.
I did exactly what the guy here recommended, too..... no change.
Finally, I did what 3drives recommended.... reformat... ouch.... again.
I noticed the thread-starters (in both posts) never replied if the solutions mentioned here worked.
If anyone has PERSONALLY solved this problem, I'd be keen to know for future reference. In the mean time, I would recommend staying away from 'folder' settings in file associations.
well i solved the problem without reformating the hard drive
but i sort of forgot now because it was so long ago.
You dont have to stay away, just take caution and dont mess with needed files.
