Ambiguous Rules

Hi guys!

I just want to know your opinions on any rules we have that you think are ambiguous and whatnot, or rules that (you think :P) should be changed, or things that should be explained.

I as a mod have a highly complex system of rules that changes only depending on how I am feeling at the time :P. Seriously though, do you think (for example) RK Launcher theme releases belong in the Application Skins Releases subforum, or the RK Launcher forum? If there are any other questions like these you want answered...

Just want to know your thoughts,

Ooh ooh, I got one... I's kinda curious why a thread would be closed but mods would get to continue posting. If it compels the mods to continue posting lightheartedly after an official close, isn't that setting a bad example? u know, to respect authritah? (really just pissed I couldn't backtalk to that rascal dreadnaut's post) (really really just tickled pink over his last line.)

*Goes off to bone up on proper punctuation tutorials.

Some mods have serious things to say afterwards. Some administrators lead us astray, to the dark side, of humor and gaiety. In reality, it's whatever the heck we feel like.

Usually when a thread is closed, it's to prevent members from doing stupid things. We can do it because there are only 2 of us (that are active) without altering the Earth's orbit, causing all sorts of other problems.

After we quench a flamewar, we might roast marshmallows over the embers. We're sorry that you're oppressed and we're not. :P

I'm really tired and RealLife™ is doing bad things to me.

bumping. whats the deal with 2 posts. maybe its just against the rules for.....bandwidth purposes? i dont know. never really got that one....

#447098

It clutters threads and inflates post counts. It can become obnoxious after a while, at least in my opinion.

[[Edit: Sorry, bumping and double posting, though technically different, often occur together. My post referred to double posting, while yours asked about bumping. I do have some thoughts about changing the bumping rules (not removing it, though!), and I'll talk to Timan about it.]]

Anything else, guys? :)

@NC: don't forget what I talked about in my PM a while back, I would love to see that changed

Them's some fightin words!

Nah.. rather, very eloquently put. And credit where credit's due. Gnomexp, you have a way with words.

I'm glad I posted the above, tho it was in jest, so that you'd have the chance to shine so ;)

I would be interested in hearing more about bumping as I had back in the day posted this tread but nobody responded then (maybe my timing: late at night wasn't the brightest,) however, I recently was hit with said need again and found myself mulling over whether I should risk the bump.

Aww.. maybe it's karma doing it's thing because of how you opress us :P

#447213

Got it, duyvan. And I see the rest of you have nothing constructive to add :P.

In any case, I'll keep bumping in mind when next I talk to Timan.

My general bumping policy is that if the thread is old and, for the most part, out of context and irrelevant, I just delete the added posts to prevent further bumping (as no one sees the thread up).

If it's something that you want to make relevant again, make a new thread and link to the old one. If anyone gets pissy, we'll handle them.

#447258

Hmnn, in the light of coolfan's latest endeavours, I seem to recall that you're only allowed to report one thread in half an hour. Makes it kinda hard to point our dear old mods in the right direction.

Could this restriction be related to the fact that I report each and every thread Shmengie makes? Is that wrong?

#447299

I think Reported Posts are more for single posts that might escape our notice. Don't worry about spam posts (but please still report them)--those are pretty hard to miss.

As for my bumping policy, I'm okay with requests for mirrors. Sometimes I'm fine with "thanks" posts, but that's pretty rare. I really dislike bumps asking for updates, and I should be a lot less charitable with them than I am :P.

This probably won't change, but I still wonder why we aren't allowed to post screenshots of NFR themes in the screenshots thread, as long as we aren't sharing it and it's just for personal use, it's fine IMO.

Changes will be posted here as they develop!
