Vista and gaming

I installed Vista in Boot Camp. I didn't install any video card drivers since they wouldn't install from the drivers CD...but Aero runs quite smooth and everything is really responsive.

However, I can't play Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory because it's way too dark. I still have yet to install the latest drivers from ATI (the downloads are so slow :X), so I hope that will fix the problem.

I own CS:S but have yet to install it in Vista, mainly since the OS ate half my partition...

Enemy Territory isnt a DOS game.

Gaming seems good on ATi, I just recently switched from a 7900GTO to an X1950 XTX and all runs well. CSS runs good but I haven't tried ET, its been ages since I played that. I can't tell you the performance difference because I haven't tried the X1950 XTX in XP but from benchmarks that i've seen its not a big drop in performance. Something like 5% difference.

I would give the new drivers a try once you get around to downloading them, they should fix the problem you're having.

I have a GeForce FX5200 (which is pretty bad to begin with) and, like you, I didn't install any drivers. Vista installed the whatever stock GeForce ones. WoW runs pretty in full screen BUT the video drivers ewill ocassionally DIE either freezing up the computer entirely, or blacking out the monitor for like 30 secs.

No problem, right? Just wait for Nvidia to update the drivers for Vista. WRONG. No plan to update these drivers have been made (((((((((((. I need to buy a new card, and you bet your ass it's gonna be an ATI card.

I was able to use ET by using the options screen to increase brightness. I can't get Call of Duty 2 to work worth a crap. NFS Carbon will not play for me either.

mines an agp 6800XT and i can barely play oblivion! it lags so much with hdr and without is better but not playable! havent tried much games! reverted back to XP!!! will switch to vista when i get a new dx 10 rig!

lol i had a 6800gt which was a little better than the XT and it sucked when playing oblivion, that was on XP not Vista

Won't being too much in the way of gaming in Vista...Sim City 4 stutters horribly with stock Intel GMA drivers that shipped with Vista. The X3100 should be able to power through it with no trouble, but Intel is being *uber* slow with driver updates that add shader functions, and all the good stuff that makes the card not suck...

However, Vista effects are quick and crisp with the X3100.

Some of the newer online games with vista let you compete with others cross platform (x-box) supposedly. I've run a few games on mine and they've all worked nicely although, I'd like to test out this cross-platform business in the near future.

I've got a Geforce 8800GTS 320MB running Vista Home Premium. Half-Life 2 & Lost Coast work great with all settings maxed out as does GTA Vice City although thats not particularly graphics intensive in the first place.

Yeah but thats recent, within a month or so nVidia had released some decent drivers for better 3d performance.
