ok, did it with emacs

still got some questions:

How and where do you find cool window decorations / styles and themes???

i tried kde-look.org but there aren't many...

And, i also wanna know how to install these things!?

Lets say for example this window decoration: Gradient Aqua OSK 0.1

i cd to the directory and then i do ./configure and it tells me this:

get used to the way linux works before you decide to compile things... compiling is an advanced topic, if you have all you need AND the configure work AND everything compiles fine it is easy, if not you are headed to an endless world of pain if you don't know what you are doing.

i.e: you are missing your compiler (cc/gcc/c++/g++)

if you are using KDE (which as far as I know is the only WM that uses binaries as window decorations) better choose IceWM themes, those are "easy" to install and you don't need to compile, generally with the theme download link in kdelook.org there is a how to install link right beside it.

Thank you Telmo, i read the Howtos in kde-look.org and i also read the install instructions in the packages. I will try to use a IceWM to see what it can give me.

I've used cc (c compiler) to compile my own C programs. I think that gcc can complie several languages. I don't know anything about the other ones.

you should find CC/GCC in the installation cds. In my case they were installed with the OS.

Go into the Mandrake Control Centre and go to the "install software" section, and install the "development tools" section. That will install all the necessary tools.

Its not for the feint of heart to compile though, Hmm...I think there's RPMs though.

Its like GNOME, but it doesnt crash

after a while using KDE (mainly because Karamba) I went back to gnome, it is in my humble opinion the best DE, at least until E17 is released

IMO, Gnome is the best looking one.

quick question: what about Bluecurve (the red hat default one)? is it a theme or a DE based on Gnome?

what are the advantages/disadvantages of JAMD over Mandrake? Does it require a faster CPU?

Taha: Yes, JAMD needs a faster CPU.

Its compiled for i686, which is a Pentium2 or higher, and athlon.

Mandrake is compiled for i586,so it works for a P100+, Duron,athlon.

Id stick with Mandrake though.

Magnolium: GTK(GIMP toolkit) is a Toolkit, a set of widgets that people can use in their programs. GNOME uses this as its main toolkit.

Frenzyfloyd: Bluecurve is a theme Redhat made for KDE and GNOME. It makes both DEs look the same. Mandrake did a similar thing with "Galaxy".
