Wallpaper disappears when I move /delete the "source file" from the Desktop.

Hi,

I'm struggeling (not for the first time :-/) with a wallpaper issue

I've created a new wallpaer and put it on my desktop while I was working on it. After finishing I configured it as my new wallpaper.

Now, when i try to move or delete the "source" file, the wallpaper simply disappears and only the background colour shows up on the desktop.

It even doesn't help when i copy the file, move the copy to another directory and then use it as a wallpaper. The source file "must" be on the desktop otherwise it won't work.

It seems that there is a dependence but I don't know where !?!?

On the thumbnail attached you can see what I mean. The wallpaper is shown in the display preferences but not on my desktop.

Does anyone know how to solve the problem?

Hmm, I've seen this behavior before, but never "it even doesn't help when I copy...".

I think you should do the following:

1) Copy the file and move it to another directory (one you intend it to remain in).

2) Set your wallpaper to one of the walls that comes with Windows XP.

3) Restart.

4) Set your wallpaper to the desired file, which now resides in a new directory.

5) If necessary, restart.

The "Restart" in step number three may even be gratuitous, I'm not sure. Also, what format is the wallpaper? If it's PNG, try converting it to JPG.

thanks for the tip. unfortunately it doesn't work.

converting, restarting between the steps, nothing helps.

even the windows wallpapers don't show up, when I move the file.

it's really weird.

anyway, thanks again.

yep, as long this "special" file is on the desktop everything works fine. the moment i remove it I can't use any other wallpapers. ^^

Alright, but what if you apply the other wallpaper first, while the "special file" is still on the desktop, and then move it from the desktop?

hehe, already tried it. doesn't work.

I thought there would be a way to solve it since I had the same problem with an IBM Active Wallpaper also.

I think I'm going to make a rollback of the OS to the point when the wallpaper wasn't there.
