(long Post) Questions About The Dock...

I thought this site disappeared never to return and happened to chance upon it through a link. It's great to be back! As far as I can tell not much has been mentioned about hardware accelerated support for the docks. What I'm specifically referring to is freeing the load of the dock onto the GPU, and being able to display spiffy effects such as specularity (shininess) maps across your icons as they grow/shrink, even the possibility of having dynamic shadows and/or the ability for the icons to fade or go out of focus when not in their rollover state. I'm probably going out on a limb with these, but with the current state of development on these docks, it won't take long before we start seeing some really snazzy effects that even the actual OS X dock isn't capable of producing :) Also, is a feature in the works when you click and hold over the icon, a right-click type of menu pops up, like in the OS X dock? Text over the icons that shrinks down instead of disappearing after the rollover? Sorry, I have a mac and I've been comparing the XP docks, and the actual dock for consistancy... Sorry for the long post, and it's great to see this site back up and running again! -Artaq

Bargmann wants to combine ObjectDock with ObjectBar so to make it so that his dock supports menus. I am not sure what sort of menus he wants to include, but I suppose the ones that you described are what he is thinking of.

Clockwise: just FYI don't know whther or not that's still the gameplan, but regardless do hope to add at least windows-based menus at some point here, then work from there to nicer menus.

as for the graphic effects... haha that's actually something i've spent some time thinking about! Needs a lot more thought though, as I'm not sure how possible things like that would be but if executed properly i'm sure this would looked pretty cool.

Don't get rid of the objectbar addition on account of my "it would be like paying 20 bucks for the dock." I said that would be a GOOD thing. A GOOD THING.
