1440x900 resolution in XP?

Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 941bw 19" Widescreen (Max.res: 1440x900)

G Card: Sis Mirage Graphics, 64mb

OS's: WinXP Home Edition & WinVista Ultimate

I was forced to re-instale WindowsXP as Vista does not support some/most CAD programes (and is reported to make them 80% slower). On Vista my monitor was 1440x900: beautiful, perfect.

So I'm just about to Dual-boot my computer (I'll be searching up on how to do that so any imput is GREATLY apreshiated!) so I can run my 'CAD operations' under XP, but still continue useing Vista for everything elece.

But----

In XP I don't have the 1440x900 resolution. I instaled & updated all the drivers, searched the samsung site, and an endless pile of forums looking for a solution... I'm updating my graphics card (ATI X 256+MB) In a few months but I can't stand this! My screen is stretched and uncomforatable!!

the problem isn't xp or the samsung monitor. it's your graphics card. apparently, vista supports it natively, xp doesn't. go to driverguide.com and see if you can find an updated xp driver for your card.

shmengie is right..... you Monitor or XP has nothing to do with it, it's your graphic card !!

Vista has better native drivers for it than Xp, thus it sets up the resolution required... finding a better set of drivers for XP will take care of your problem.

I can't find any drivers for 'SiS Mirage (Grpahics)' on DriverGuide.com. My computers an Acer Aspire from FutureShop back in August It's new and should be a (sh*tty) but popular card.

did you try the acer website? they should have all the drivers for your system...

You might get first licence agreement screen, check agree checkbox and continue.

Next...

Select > Windows XP > IGP Graphics Drivers > SiS66x & SiS76x series.

Download and you should be good to go.

ARG! Even after instaling the lastest Sis Driver I -STILL!- don't have the 1440x900 widescreen option! Theres no Widescreen options at all! 1280x720/1024 Is a high as it gets. Right now I'm on 1152x864 And my widescreen monitor compresses it to fit to screen (causing the stretch) I have no idea what to do!

Im on an extreamly tight budget (after buying Vista 399$ pff), I cant aford a new monitor and I need a non-stretched screen to do my CAD drawings. !!! What elece can i do!!!!! Is there anyway to mess around the reg to set a pixel litmit output or anything?!?!?!

I have no idea why it's not working.

get a new graphic card, that's your best option if you can't get it working with your existing hardware. You don't need a fancy high end graphic card for that

Yeah, I gusse thats my best bet. I'm waiting for my taxes to come, and that'll take forever. I gusse I'll just soilder on for a little while longer. I was planing on getting a ATI Radeon X 256MB im positive that, that'll do.

Try this.... go to Desktop Properties > Settings > Advanced > Monitor tab

Uncheck Hide modes this monitor cannot display checkbox. Click apply, OK and you'll be back in Settings tab in Desktop Properties. Now check if you can set that resolution using that slider.

Dose anyone know a way of shadowing or taking Vistas Graphic Driver. (Keep in mind I'm still dual booting Vista|XP) Will that even work?

Did u try changing Refresh Rate from 60 to something else? I'm not sure, I had some card once which was very picky on Refresh rates, both high (75-80) and low (45-60).

Just tryed it, I had 60 or 75. When i changed it up to 75 it just got all shacky and demented... thanks though. I don't know how much more there is to do.

It realy sucks when whats suposed to be a square is now a rectangle..

I suggest a videocard upgrade. Unless the company that makes your card updates the drivers your SOL. There is no workable way to force the resolution, trust me I had tried that in the past.
