I am hoping this is the right place... but I got a rather noobish question.
I downloaded a windows Vista theme for my XP computer and I am wondering how to get Styler to use that instead of resetting it to the default XP theme.

Wrong place, it should go in Customizing Windows.
About your question, what extension is the file you downloaded? Only .msstyle files will work with Styler, and you need to have a patched UXTheme.dll
If you have all of those, make sure you put the visual style in C:WindowsResourcesThemes. That's where Styler draws its styles from.
