i have just downloaded the ISO for Ubuntu.
i am running XP now.
How can i dual-boot Ubuntu and XP?
i need really detailed steps on how to do this.
Heres what i need.
Install Ubuntu on my Hard Drive (i have a second internal hard drive, and if i can, i would like to use that.)
Have XP boot automatically when i turn on my computer, but have the option to boot into ubuntu thorugh the boot menu.
Help please. i dont know how to get any clearer of what i need....
Can I issue a word of warning, if your dual booting, back up your windows stuff. I hosed my system last year, and stupidly lost all my stuff, including 40gb of music.
The walktho' seem easy and they are but they can be full of pitfalls.

If you are installing Ubuntu to a second drive, it is quite easy. Just curious, did you google this or try the Ubuntu Guide? http://ubuntuguide.org/ -- Quite useful as are http://www.ubuntuforums.org
neither. lol i just downloaded the Ubuntu ISOs; burned it to a CD, and now im just waiting on how to install it. I would very much love to have it installed on my other internal Hard Drive, which is just a measly 7GB thats just taking up space, so i figured i would do something with it.
i figured that i would install Ubuntu on my other drive, so that i can use it. Since other people of my family use my computer, i would like my computer to automatically boot into Windows, unless i select to boot into Ubuntu on my other drive.
does that help a little?+
edit:: also my second drive cant be formatted through windows...i dont know why!! can i format it any other way?? this is crucial! it was a restore disk but it was taken off.....i dont need it now and i want to wipe it and format it. any help with that?

This is because i no longer wish to dual-boot with XP and Ubuntu. I have a second, smaller hard drive which i want to install Ubuntu on. How can i wipe my Second hard drive and then reformat it with the Ubuntu Installer?
Any help is much appreciated.

i felt the ubuntu installation was very easy, insert the live cd, play around for a bit and then the wizard on the desktop walked you through pretty easily..
yes it was fairly easy, and i instantly fell in love with Ubuntu.
i had to tweak the GRUB a little to make the defualt OS Windows since im the only computer savvy one in the house hold and this is the family computer.
So now i have Window XP on my 200GB Hard Drive, and Ubuntu on my old dusty internal 7GB Hard Drive. I love it. i can have both OSs without having to partion my Hard Drive. i love Ubuntu

The wizard didn't work for me. It's so much easier if you have a spare HD to install it on; I was unwilling to mess around with the wizard too much on my primary laptop computer. If I'm going to install any Linux distro. in the future, it will probably be Slackware, or Ubuntu without the wizard.

yes, i also felt a little uneasy and unconfortable partioning my Hard Drive and the such, as im not the only one who uses my PC and i wasnt going to risk screwing up Windows (i dont know why they want it anyway!) for the rest of them.
Ubuntu is actually a good OS. i like it so far...
i hope that wasn't a serious statement
