I havent made a preview yet but i just thought this was something i could post here that would interest others.
I recently bought three things from eBay: A faulty iPod 4th gen 20gb colour screen (for 40 pounds) , A U2 iPod OEM 4th gen faceplate (for under 12 pounds on ebay with p and p), And a 12 in one torx kit.
I already own a functional 20gb iPod 4th gen with B/W screen but felt that modding the B/W firmware interface with iPodWizard 1.2 was a bit restricted, so i decided to get an iPod with a colour screen.
I didn't want a 5th gen as i wont really use the video facility with such a small screen (also i don't really like the design - plus im holding out for the next gen lol) so i decided to look for a fixable faulty iPod on eBay. I also wanted a black iPod as i wanted it to match my black Shure e2c in ear headphones. I didnt want a U2 iPod as the red click wheel looks a bit naff so i just bought a facelplate.
So i looked on eBay and found an iPod with 'a folder icon problem'.
I also bought the faceplate and tools mentioned earlier. Within a few days i had all i ordered.
The first thing i wanted to do is fix my new iPod. I thought i would need to replace the HD with the one in my existing 4th gen but low and behold all it needed was a restore! So after that i sold my old iPod (for 25 pounds) and began work on the replacing of the ipod faceplate. It took a while to pry the iPod open and using a tutorial on the internet i transferred all of the innards into my black faceplate and put it back together. After modding with iPodWizard 1.2i made a more jet black theme and once i did that my iPod was complete!
Ill have some pictures of it up in the coming days once i get a good picture of it taken.
Sorry if this is a pointless thread i just wanted to document this somewhere thats all.
