MP3 Volume Modification App

Hey everyone i was wondering... does anyone know a good application which can edit the original volume of an MP3 file? i did a little sleuthing but didn't come up with anything good. i don't need to edit the overall quality (but if included, that would be nice). Also, not as important as the first question, but does anyone know how to put sound blocking background music into the MP3 as well?

audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) should do that for you. It also has some nice features for mixing different tracks if that's what you mean by sound blocking.

Indeed. If you're going to use Audacity, check out the Amplify effect (a negative value) or the Compressor effect.

audacity is nice. personally, i prefer mp3gain for non-destructive, undo-able volume adjusting.
