Network Mac to PC

Can someone please help me with a little networking problem?

I’ve got an iMac with 10.2 installed and PC with XP Home. I’ve set everything up ok and the Mac can see the PC and the shared folders. However I’m sharing another folder with all my music in it and the Mac can’t seem to see this one.

I don’t know if it’s anything to do with the Drive letter I’ve got associated with it, its way down at Z.

I’ve ensured that it is shared out; I know this because my daughter can see it on her laptop.

As a matter of interest the PC can't see the Mac, (I think the PC is in the huff ;) ) but I'm not that bother about that just now.

Dunno about your music prob... as far as it goes my pc is blind as well. Mac sees pc okay.

You have to enable "Windows Sharing" on the Mac.

Once that's done, your PC will be able to see the Mac just fine.

I also encountered this mishap while sharing both my PC and Mac.

I can access Mac from the PC, but I cannot do it vice versa.

Please enlighten me also. Thanks!

IF you have a share enabled on your PC, from your Mac, create an SMB connection by selecting "Connect to:" from with Finder, and enter in the SMB connection info. (Like mapping a drive)

Example: SMB://IP_address_of_PC/Share_name

Yeah this is from Mac to PC, but for some reason we can't get from PC to Mac. I'm not sure if windows can see the Mac drive format.

My other music folder problem must just my PC cause I can see the shared folders on my daughters PC and laptop. I'll try again over the wekend to move my music to another drive to see if that cures the problem

Hmm, it works just fine for me. Make sure there are no firewall issues on either the PC (more likely) or the Mac (less likely). Like rjohnstone said, you should just be able to check the box for "Windows Sharing" in the Sharing Preference Pane, and then follow the directions just a little down the screen from there, where it gives the LAN IP address to connect to the Mac.
