.ico Icon Issue When Displaying...

I recently did a clean install of my WinXP SP1 system...my issue is as follows: when d/l any type of .ico icon files...say for example the new G5 .icos @IconFactory, it is a 1.36 MB file with 23 icons from sizes 16 x 16 to 128 x 128...

When I unzip the file...and then go to View---->Icons within the G5 Icon folder...it only shows the .icos as 16 x 16...other members that I have chatted with are getting 'all' the sizes to show up within the folder...

I have gone to Folder Options--->File types--->where there is .ico file type registered:

Is there an 'editing setting' that I have to apply in order for 'all' the .ico sizes to show properly??

This happens with any .ico file that I D/L with different sizes ie: 16 x 16 up to 128 x 128...

Hi there

I saw your post on a thread (that has since been closed) about the problem you are facing with 158kb-sized icons.

All my icons that are sized from 16x16 to 128x128 are sized at 158Kb, even the ones that I make for myself. I think this is prefectly normal. The reason you think that they are sized only to 16x16 is because of Explorer preview (on the left) showing them to be like that. But that's just something messed up with Explorer. The sizes 128x128 and so forth are all in the icons themselves. That's why they look good when they are placed in the dock.

If you wish to verify that the all the sizes are there, you can download Gif Movie Gear for Icons, and open the ico files. You'll see what sizes are contained in the icons. Also, you can use Axialis Iconworkshop.

In fact, if you use the latter program to open up the icons, and then save them again, Explorer preview will now show them to be of the correct (largest) size.

Not necessarily, I have made icons with IconWorkshop and explorer displays the last format saved in thumbnail view.

Since IconWorkshop saves the 16x16 format last, this is what you see even if there is a 128x128 format.

I thought thumbnail view takes the first icon size in the file, and I was saving my icons with 128 size first

Thanks Guys...for it now is 'all' coming together...I have never used any graphic software before...but I think that the time has come to review the good quality programs available, and maybe D/L a trial period for one of them...
